A few of the members of the underground metal band Obsolete have roots in this town. Also notable is Duckee Nobody, MySpace celebrity and icon, as well as Felicia Lanza, also known as Mercredi, who is known for her outrageous dress and hair styles, and being the local 'voo-doo queen'. Marie Powers is also a very notable person, as the Powers family has been in Valley Springs for over 100 years. Sarah-Sirrah is also a 'celebrity' in the town and is the leader of an underground cult and known for her superior art skills.

A 'notable people' section within a geographic location article is supposed to list any persons notable to the outside world, not merely persons who are well-known to denizens of that place. Maralia 19:01, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Picture used shows a mural that was not authorized for this use. Pictures of Murals can only be used for personal or Journalistic reasons, Otherwise the current valley springs photo breaks copyright rules. I have discovered that the poster of the Valley Spring's photo [redacted]. I live locally and am friends with the Calaveras Arts Council. Yes this is true, along with this information the user who restored the image of the Mural, Jeffrey Beall, [redacted]. Furthermore the image is not a strong representation of the area. It makes no difference where a user lives or who they do or do not know. user:Jeffrey Beall took the picture, so clearly he was there at the time. I've removed the image (and replaced it with the malplaced landscape image) because, in my opinion,the original infobox picture was simplynot a good picture to use. , The majority of the photo consisted of a road and two billboards.

My understanding of the US copyright issue with Commons images (possibly wrong since I don't usually deal with this) is that Freedom of Panorama does not apply to a mural in the US, and that to determine if the mural is no longer under copyright protection we would need to know when it was painted and whether there is a copyright notice on it.. I understand that a person does not have to be in an area to edit a Wikipedia page Meters, however for accuracy it is best to have a person who lives in the area and can post an up to date picture that represents more of the area of Valley Springs. Thanks for changing the photo and for the info Meters :), we genuinely appreciate your attention to this matter. We were wondering what your affiliation is with this wikipedia page? Are you local? In a "town" this small we all know one-another -Calaveras County is a small place. If someone local to the area wants to upload a new image they are welcome to do so, but it makes absolutely no sense to argue, as you did, that someone who took a picture there a few years ago should not have added ii to the article because you claim they no longer live there.

And it's not appropriate to ask another editor who they are or where they are from. If they have not publicly disclosed that information on Wikipedia don't ask. I've edited 10s of thousands of articles, including many location articles. I do not, and have not ever, lived in most of those places, and I have never disclosed my name.. Copy Right Issues[edit]

Hi wikipedia -thank you for your great service and letting us know about copyright isses. We checked the internet for copy right issues in the article and found a quote that we have removed. (The quote was made nearly 100 years ago though).
