Anyone else notice the innaccuracies in the past alumni section?

Why is SuperTafe trying to claim some of the less desirable Adelaide graduates? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.45.20.119 (talk) 02:23, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For clarification, the above post is referring to the University of South Australia as "SuperTafe" because it seems to be a joke/opinion among Adelaide Uni students that UniSA is just an extension of TAFE (which probably rates worse than the average American community college, it offers virtually no science at all and has many "beading" classes and such). I'd imagine that part of the thinking in this joke is that there is a huge gap between Adelaide Uni and UniSA in terms of prestige and quality, and certainly the point of the joke is that UniSA is not a real uni. I can't imagine Flinders students getting involved with this as Flinders is often thought of as a fringe university itself when compared to Adelaide Uni. And it could be true, the undergraduate requirements are more lenient at Flinders and UniSA, meaning that both of those universities will have students that would never have been accepted to Adelaide Uni. Also Adelaide Uni charges more money for a variety of things. You couldn't cite any of this though, this is just banter of immature students, no one who is is eligible for a citation on Wikipedia would ever get involved with this fanboyism, to attack another university directly like that would cause a poo storm. Also there are implications of class-ism, as students at Adelaide University are on average in a higher socioeconomic class. Adelaide Uni does have special entry and disability support and such, but it is not as accessible as those offered by UniSA and Flinders. Sorry for this post, but I thought that two year old barb above needed some explaining. All of Adelaides unis offer different pathways, a good student will get a lot out of any of them and a poor performing student will get a lot less if he went to any of them. To discredit an entire institution like that just seems too nasty to ignore. 114.75.54.34 (talk) 18:24, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Personally, I chose UniSA since it offers the specific program I wanted to do, (one in Applied Science) and it was readily accessible. From my grades I would've easily been accepted at the University of Adelaide, but since it doesn't have many of the programs or courses that UniSA offers, such as the one I'm doing, I didn't. Whoever made that comment didn't make this university look bad, he simply embarrassed the University of Adelaide by broadcasting that an immature prick like him-or-herself just happens to be studying there. In response to the second comment, I'm not sure what you wrote about "class-ism" is conclusive enough to make a bold comment like that about. Seems like a random guess to me; where could you have gotten that information? If it's a simple guess because of the higher grade requirements for courses at Adelaide Uni, I should say that a high school student's grades have absolutely nothing to do with their "class". UniSA is South Australia's largest university, and I'm pretty sure a large percentage of people studying and teaching there are people of high class (or white-collar, if you wanna put it that way) (several students I've met on-campus just happen to be). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.131.194.179 (talk) 19:45, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Entropy[edit]

How long did this student newspaper run; fifteen years? Can someone who knows add it to the entry? MartinSFSA (talk) 10:15, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Request[edit]

Under the heading ‘Research Institutes’, please add 'The China-Australia Centre for Sustainable Urban Development' http://www.unisa.edu.au/Research/China-Australia-Centre-for-Sustainable-Urban-Development/ Shrewton (talk) 02:58, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I know nothing about the China-Australia Centre for Sustainable Urbam Development Shrewton, but can create a new section for it if you want to write the entry, otherwise feel free to draft something yourself. There will be no shortage of editors keen to advise and proof read. Djapa Owen (talk) 03:20, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Brookman Building?[edit]

Has the old School of Mines building been officially renamed Brookman Building? The huge central hall within, was named Brookman Hall for the School of Mines' benefactor George Brookman, but "Brookman Building" or "Brookman's Building" was, and last time I looked was still, at 35 Grenfell Street. Reports of on-campus sexual assaults[edit]

I've got a COI on this article, so I'm just putting this forward, but won't edit it directly. I see that there's now a section on sexual assaults added by an IP I've been having a long term dispute with elsewhere. If people think it should stay then that's fine. However, the first section seems not particularly notable - the [1] article is about all universities, and doesn't single out UniSA, so it seems odd to have UniSA singled out here. That an Adelaide based counselor has spoken to people from all three universities in Adelaide seems unsurprising; and that UniSA has a program to combat sexual assault means that they have the same sort of program as every other university has. I don't see anything unique about UniSA, or indeed controversial about UniSA, in any of those three points.

The second paragraph is about UniSA, so normally I wouldn't have a real problem with it. However, the article used as a reference has been pulled, which is why an archive is being linked to. I do not know why it was pulled. So I guess it is someone's call as to whether or not it can still be used.

As an aside, I don't have this watchlisted because of the COI issues, so I may miss any comments. - Bilby (talk) 23:32, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's a significant story, and I don't think just because it also affects a number of other universities doesn't mean it should go in this one. The section has been in the article for quite some time, and has been subject to concerted attempts to water it down or remove it in such a way that it really looks like conflict of interest editing from people at UniSA. The Drover's Wife (talk) 00:47, 30 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Assuming that you are referring to the one I linked to, there is nothing controversial about UniSAs figures compared to other universities in Australia. As it is a general issue, it seems more suitable for Tertiary education in Australia, rather than only been covered in two university articles and none of the others. - Bilby (talk) 01:05, 30 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi The Drover's Wife (talk), worth noting the editor in question, Bilby, has been editing this article since 2008 and has done so 13 times now. But only now discloses a WP:COI, and seems at no time has disclosed this WP:COI here or on their talk page. "Editors with a COI ... are expected to disclose it whenever they seek to influence an affected article's content ... this is a requirement of the Wikimedia Foundation.[6]" 101.175.40.197 (talk) 09:37, 30 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That requirement was added long after my last edit to this page, which was in 2011. I have deliberately not edited this article since, and all edits met the requirements of editing with a COI. - Bilby (talk) 09:47, 30 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It is standard protocol that you, as a staff member directly involved, cannot be publishing here on talk wanting modifications or editing the article (particularly on topics of campus assault and abuse) without first notifying the HRU at UniSA of your intentions, permissions and COI. [2] Take the issue up with HRU please. 1.144.96.99 (talk) 23:09, 30 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Is this general knowledge or WP:OUTING?  Honette 23:47, 30 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'll take a closer look at the article. Perhaps the wording can be changed?  Honette 23:55, 30 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No, it's common knowledge about staff member https://wikimedia.org.au/wiki/User:Bilby + and common knowledge about social media protocols. 1.144.96.99 (talk) 01:01, 31 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Removed Copyright Content[edit]

I removed a few paragraphs that was copied and pasted from http://www.unisa.edu.au/About-UniSA/Our-History/. The UniSA website makes it clear that their content is protected by copyright: http://www.unisa.edu.au/About-UniSA/Governance-and-management-structure/Copyright-at-UniSA/  Honette 03:19, 30 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It seems there are more copy and pasted content...especially in the Campuses section.  Honette 10:29, 30 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
