Actually Belgium is a federation of three separate Regions...[edit]

Actually it's made up of the three language communities (Flemish, French and German). Talking about the regions just for not-really-existant bilingualism of the Brussels-Capital region doesn't represent Belgium in an appropriate manner. --Kazu89 ^ノート 02:37, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Before making such outlandish and incorrect claims, perhaps you should check your sources. See http://www.belgium.be/en/about_belgium/government/federale_staat/ (a website that belongs to the Belgian Government). Coming back to this discussion: this articles mixes up the Belgian Regions and the Belgian Communities. It's quite brutal to say "Dutch-speaking part of Flanders" and "French-speaking part of Wallonia", these Regions are not at all language based so the statements in this article are incorrect to say the least. The Walloon Region by the way comprises the German-speaking part of Belgium (German-speaking Community of Belgium) and we haven't started about all the special language facilities yet. I understand that the chart for the French-speaking community uses the territory of the Walloon region for simplification, and the Flemish community chart uses the Flemish region ; but this cannot be mixed up in the article. So, the most important question: what about the Brussels-Capital Region where both French community and Flemish community are theoretically located? Do they just stick it to the French community ? I haven't been able to find any information hereon and without any, I will correct the article without precising the Brussels part. PCC7500 (talk) 13:35, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

To address the genuine concerns of User:PCC7500, I have now amended the description to read "mainly Dutch speaking region of Flanders" and "mainly French speaking part of Wallonia" as we realize their is no linguistic uniformity of either region. As for German speakers, I have rarely found any German songs in Ultratop, whereas the German, Austrian and to lesser extent Swiss charts have common trends and songs. Regarding Belgium, perhaps there is a more markedly German oriented music chart, but I am not aware of it. I must say, the Flanders Ultratop does have occasionally some French language singles and albums and the French chart rarely some Dutch language releases, due to mixed language music markets in Brussels region that gets reflected in Dutch and French Ultratops, probably because of sales in Brussels (although I am not sure). Does Brussels have its unique multilingual chart that encompasses Flemish, French, German and English language songs? werldwayd (talk) 14:27, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

From checking the pages about the Ultratop on the French Wikipedia, the FR Ultratop counts sales in Brussels and Wallonia (obv. including those 42,000 people speaking German) while the NL Ultratop limits itself to Flanders. This is a logical explanation, especially considering we're talking about a private organisation and this division economically makes the most sense. However I can't find any evidence, and the official names are Ultratop Wallonie and Vlaanderen. -PCC7500 (talk) 19:55, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ultratip vs. single charts[edit]

The ultratip-chart is based on a combination of sales and airplay, whereas the official chart is based on sales. I haven't found anything on the official ultratop.be website, that states anything about how to calculate a position from a tip-chart into the official chart (beyond position 50 (Vlandern) or 40 (Wallonia), and have removed that from the article, because the charts are based on two different criterias.
