Spelling[edit]

Both vaccinifoliae and vacciniifoliae (double i) appear in reliable sources. Do we have a definitive spelling? Both are used in this article and elsewhere in Wikipedia, and one of them may need to be changed. Certes (talk) 20:32, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I love you @certes. Plant Galls of the Western United States (2021) has it as Trichoteras vaccinifoliae (Andricus vaccinifoliae)* (one I). But I originally had it as Andricus vacciniifoliae (two Is) per iNaturalist. BugGuide also has two Is per Andricus species listing
But it looks like the conflict begins with the two possible spellings of Quercus vacciniifolia (or vaccinifolia). Calscape, which is very much my most trusted reliable source for Cali oaks, uses two Is for that. So...I don't know!
Right now my gut says two Is to match our spelling for the oak, BugGuide and iNaturalist, but I could be persuaded otherwise. jengod (talk) 20:52, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the quick response, jengod. Sadly, it's not my field. There's also the synonym(?) Andricus vaccinifoliae aka Andricus vacciniifoliae, which has single i here but double ii in Andricus. I also tried updating the genus in the speciesbox, but we don't yet have a {{Taxonomy/Trichoteras}} template. It's probably a simple copy-paste from {{Taxonomy/Andricus}}, removing the reference, but to be safe I should leave it to the experts. Someone with a clue should probably also create Trichoteras. Oh, you just did – thanks! Certes (talk) 21:10, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have a clue but created Trichoteras anyway. We will see how it goes! jengod (talk) 21:12, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Great. I think that's everything tidied up, including the template and incoming redirects, unless someone comes along with a good reason for single i. Certes (talk) 21:32, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Authority[edit]

I changed the genus in the speciesbox but didn't change the authority (Ashmead, 1896). I'm not sure whether it applies just to the species part of the name or needs to change to reflect the reclassification. Please fix if necessary. Thanks, Certes (talk) 22:40, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
