Check Treaty of Ramla: probably identical with Treaty of Jaffa!!![edit]

If I am wrong (never read anywhere about a Treaty of Ramla though), at least link them closer together. Looks like smb. took the wording of some chronicle too literally. Arminden (talk) 17:29, 12 September 2015 (UTC)Arminden[reply]

I see quite a few references to "Treaty of Ramla" but mostly in non-specialist books. As far as I can tell, they all refer to the same treaty as this one. Zerotalk 01:46, 13 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It could be a mistake to cite Ramla instead of Jaffa (but it seems difficult to me that the agreement was reached in Jaffa, in the hands of the King of England Richard the Lionhearth a few days ago).
In any case, I do not contest that Axelrod's work can be considered unsatisfactory as a source, but I expect at least to indicate kindly the historical source for which the truce agreement would not have been reached in Ramla. Thanks. --Cloj (talk) 15:14, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I had a correspondence with a lady who wrote about the topic. It seems that Saladin stayed in Ramla, while Richard stayed (in part because of falling ill?) in Jaffa, and noblemen were used as go-betweens, to offer and receive oaths from both sides to the effect that they were committing to the agreement. There was also a one-day or half-day difference between the dates, as the couriers/representatives needed some time, or were told to wait. Altogether, it seems to me that that's the reason why Arab sources are inclined to call it the Treaty of Ramla, and the Western sources prefer Treaty of Jaffa. I'm biting more than I can chew, I'll try to put it in - one day. Really sorry. So we just need to make sure, via redirects, that both search terms lead to this page.
