New Austrian Tunnelling method[edit]

A news article says this is the first tunnel in the US to use the New Austrian Tunnelling method. Is that correct? Abductive (reasoning) 23:30, 25 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Probably not, unless you count from the date that the Devils' Slide project entered the planning stages decades ago. There are NATM projects in the US dating back to 1991. [1][2] If you're really into tunnel geology and techniques, see [3]. The geology varies so much that five different techniques were used in different sections of the tunnel. --John Nagle (talk) 03:49, 14 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Open for traffic today. Finally! --John Nagle (talk) 05:39, 27 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bridges don't have pedestrian walkways[edit]

If anyone has a source specifically about the bridges attached to the tunnels, that would be interesting - unlike all new bridges elsewhere, these don't have pedestrian walkways, built more like freeway overpasses. It's very weird, for the scenic highway. -174.62.68.53 (talk) 08:59, 12 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
