Plot summary[edit]

The plot summary from Turner Classic Movies --- "Tobacco Road Full Synopsis". Turner Classic Movies. Retrieved 24 June 2014 --- is clearly an extended quotation from an existing source, written by an author who I assume is not the Wikipedian who placed that text in the article.

Apart from being ethically bad writing practice, that is: you don't simply take a big chunk of text written by somebody else and stick it in your article without adding a single word or two, preferably sentences and paragraphs, of your own making, no matter who you are nor what publication you're contributing to. This is also utterly contrary to WP style and content guidelines. For the purpose of this critique, I'm calling these guidelines rules, as regarding them as loose guidelines would just be stupid and wilfully belligerent.

So before I remove the entire plot summary text, I'm inviting the Wikipedian who put it there to 1. Identify yourself, 2. Explain the intellectual property rights status of the quotation, ie: did you get permission from Turner Classics or what? 3. If no permission was given then its presence in the article is illegal ans illicit, and the onus is on you to remove it. All of it.

I'll come back and check soon, repeatedly, until the matter is resolved. Thank you. Arbo (talk) 10:19, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
