Untitled[edit]

"Joe Schermie quit in 1973 and was replaced by Jack Ryland. The band then became an eight-piece with the induction of another keyboards player, Skip Konte. However, by this time, the band had stopped recording and broke up not long afterwards."

They still perform as a sextet, and released 5 albums with new material after 1973. How could they have broken up "soon after"? It makes no sense.

If the band wasn't active until 1968, when the Beatles were already major celebrities, how can their use of a Lennon/McCartney song be one of the earliest hits for these songwriters, as this article implies?

Yeah, that obviously needs to be revised.

"Mama Told Me Not To Come" may have been recorded by Eric Burdon and the Animals, but it was written by Randy Newman. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.51.171.245 (talk) 19:02, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Location[edit]

If memory serves, the band was formed in Modesto, CA. Does anyone have any info to back this up? --PhantomTrogdor 13:50, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Guitarist Michael Allsup grew up in Modesto. However, Three Dog Night was originally formed by the three lead singers, who already had a contract with Dunhill Records in Los Angeles when they began looking for backing musicians in 1968. There's a lot of good background information on Allsup's website http://www.michaelallsup.com -- when I get some time, I'll try to update this article. -- Engineer Bob 20:50, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

One[edit]

Is there a page for the song "One"? The link here just redirects to the disambiguation page for 1. Raistlin11325 15:15, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I don't believe there's an article on the song yet, but it would be a nice project for someone to work on -- maybe I'll start it one of these nights. The proper syntax for the title would be One (Three Dog Night song). -- Engineer Bob 19:28, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reunion[edit]

Why is there a blurb about UK Sky Television using the song "Joy to the World" (from before the breakup) in the middle of the "Reunion" section? I don't think it belongs there...I'm not sure it even belongs on this page. 67.41.44.107 (talk) 04:56, 27 July 2008 (UTC) the danny hutton/june fairchild story is cute but probably inaccurate. the colloquial expression "three dog night" refers to an extremely HOT night, not a cold one................. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.233.206.70 (talk) 20:14, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New Album? (in regards to 2007-present section)[edit]

1. On their official site, there is nothing about a compilation type album released in 2008. Last one was 2004, the 35th anniversary with symphony orchestra. 2. Says they recorded new material in 2007? If so where is it? What is it called? The "source" is just one sentence that is not even a source. It should either be cited or removed. -Winter123 (talk) 19:34, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

your song[edit]

i have removed this line:

[Elton John]] later credited Three Dog Night's cover of "Your Song" (which was released concurrently in the U.S. with John's version, in April 1970) with being a major factor in catapulting him to stardom.

This unsourced claim seems unlikely, and I can't find any verification of it. Can anyone supply supporting info on this? Trishm (talk) 08:08, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lead Vocal Credits[edit]

I added the Lead Vocal Credits section as I believe some fans might want to know out of curiosity who sang what, assuming they don't know already. All of these are easily verifiable on live YouTube videos of the original lineup, so there's no need for citations, but if somebody has a problem with it & deletes it, I'll spend an hour when I get some time & add citation links to a live video of each song, but hopefully no one is that anal to demand it, and if you are --- get a life, will ya? Regarding "Celebrate," you're correct about the order of the singers shown in the films/videos, but these are not the same as on the studio recording, which apparently features Cory, then Danny, and finally Chuck. Do you or anyone know why they changed things around? 50.34.96.227 (talk) 03:43, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Cory Wells died yesterday[edit]

Three Dog Night Mourns the Loss of Cory Wells

Oct 21, 2015 | For Immediate Release: Los Angeles, CA (October 21, 2015) “It is with deep sadness and disbelief that I must report the passing of Cory Wells, my beloved band mate for over 45 years,” announced Danny Hutton of Three Dog Night. “Cory was an incredible singer – a great performer, he could sing anything.” Wells, one of the three lead singers of iconic American pop band Three Dog Night, died unexpectedly yesterday in Dunkirk, NY. Wells had been with Three Dog Night from the beginning and continued performing with the band up until September of this year when he developed a problem with severe back pain. “Cory was like a brother in so many ways,“ said Hutton. “We had been together since 1965 and I am in shock at this sudden loss.” Wells, whose band The Enemys was the house band at Whisky A Go-Go, met Hutton, a solo artist and a writer/producer at Hanna Barbera Records, when they had both been invited to tour with Sonny and Cher. After that tour, Hutton contacted Wells about forming a group with three lead singers. Three Dog Night went on to have 21 consecutive Top 40 hits. The band recorded the music of the best (and mostly undiscovered) songwriters of their time including Randy Newman, Harry Nilsson, Elton John, Laura Nyro, Paul Williams and Hoyt Axton among many others. The group’s eclectic taste, combined with their ability to recognize and record hits in a unique, distinctive and appealing style, resulted in Three Dog Night dominating the charts for years. Cory Wells was born Emil Lewandowski on February 2, 1941 to a single... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.88.48.194 (talk) 13:33, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Photo caption[edit]

I believe the caption of the lead photo is wrong. Isn't Danny Hutton in the middle and Cory Wells on the left? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.220.242.164 (talk) 17:59, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A quick Google search on Cory Wells and Danny Hutton images confirms that the photo is correctly captioned. Relbats (talk) 19:08, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Negron and rehab[edit]

"but in late '85, Negron was forced back into rehab"

This is the first reference in the article to rehab. "Forced back into rehab" implies previous visit(s) to rehab.

The article should include an earlier reference to Negron in rehab. Either that, or rewrite the existing sentence to omit "back".

I will leave this to someone who knows more than I about the band.
