Edith Wollaston[edit]

These are some sloppy notes about T. V. Wollaston's wife Edith. She is listed as the describer of several species of Lepidoptera and her work "Notes on the Lepidoptera of St. Helena, with Descriptions of new Species" is often attributed to her husband.

The original descriptions of at least 37 species in that article are attributed to "E. Woll."

According to Dictionary of National Biography, 1885-1900, Volume 62 "He married, on 12 Jan. 1869, Edith, youngest daughter of Joseph Shepherd of Teignmouth."

According to his obituary in The Entomologist's Monthly Magazine, volume 14, page 213, he had no children. It mentioned that he "married the youngest daughter of his friend Mr. Sheppard", but does not give her name.

In Ladies in the Laboratory? American and British Women in Science, 1800-1900 by Mary R. S. Creese it says Edith Wollaston "was remembered for her collections from St. Helena."
