I think the date of Stevens´s return to San Francisco (on December 24, 1886) could no be right. In his book he wrote: And so the bicycle part of the tour around the world, which was begun April 22, 1884, at San Francisco, California, ends December 17, 1886, at Yokohama. At this port I board the Pacific mail steamer City of Peking, which in seventeen days lands me in San Francisco. So he could not return to San Francisco before January 3, 1885. -- 80.131.61.111 13:31, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What's a slicker?[edit]

What is a slicker? This was an unknown word to me (I'm British) until I looked it up. I take it that it means 'raincoat', so I am changing the text accordingly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pawebster (talkcontribs) 16:46, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

International distress call[edit]

I think originally there were links to other languages. There aren't now so I suspect I have blundered and deleted them. Does anyone less clumsy know how to get them back, please? Sorry. Les woodland (talk) 09:01, 26 February 2011 (UTC)les woodland[reply]

Never seen east of the Mississippi?[edit]

"He had never seen North America east of the Mississippi." but he was born in England and grew up in Denver. This is quoting from a source but it seems the source is inaccurate. Presumably if the family were in financial straights, they would migrate directly from England, across eastern North America to Colorado, rather than immigrate via Asia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.242.147.63 (talk) 17:46, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

As I read the article he moved first to Missouri then to Denver, but it would not be impossible to have sailed from Britain to a port West of the Mississippi - eg Houston had a port from circa 1840. Pinkbeast (talk) 18:32, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
