Duplications[edit]

The Danilo for Sadler's Wells - staged at SW and also at the Coli - is one and the same production. There was certainly not a Royal Command Performance. HM may have turned up, but it wasn't like Queen Victoria getting Carte's company down to Windsor. That didn't happen in the 1950s. This is an otiose duplication and should be removed. - Tim riley (talk) 18:17, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think it should have said Royal Variety Performance, but I guess that is not notable enough to mention. See: http://www.eabf.org.uk/royal-variety-performance/archive/1950s/1958 -- Ssilvers (talk) 19:34, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm confused about the timing. We need to clarify that he repeated the role in 1958, no? -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:25, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No. TR played Danilo (well-reviewed as I have mentioned earlier in the article) in frequent revivals for Sadler's Wells. The Coliseum revival was not specially notable - certainly doesn't need a second mention when he had sung so many other more important roles in multiple revivals for the Wells. Immediately after the Coli Widow he joined D'Oyly Carte in Dublin. See Rollins and Witts, p, 182. - Tim riley (talk) 18:40, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I see your point. Sorry to belabor the issue, but Stone says that he joined DOC in Dublin for a few weeks, AND THEN he played Danilo at the Coliseum for two months, so is he wrong? If not, I think it makes sense to mention that he started at DOC at the end of the season, then in July to Sept 1958 did another Danilo, and then resumed at DOC. Otherwise, we are not giving the chronology very clearly, it would seem. If you disagree, go ahead an remove it again. Also, should we say, in the Sadler's Wells section, which roles he played multiple times or was best known for? All the best, -- Ssilvers (talk) 19:06, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've forged a compromise. I think a two-month stand is worth mentioning, and it will stand for the proposition that he did other work during his DOC years, although it would be nice to actually say that. -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:35, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Never to return[edit]

Sounds as if he's flouncing out in the manner of Victorian melodrama. I preferred my more neutral description. - Tim riley (talk) 18:20, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I removed the phrase. -- Ssilvers (talk) 20:39, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Death[edit]

I think that the mention of Round's death should begin a new paragraph. That seems quite standard in bio articles. -- Ssilvers (talk) 19:05, 3 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
