Merging[edit]

  • IMO each of the main characters deserves "fleshing" out, and to keep the main article about the series manageable in size, I vote not to merge. A major appeal of Wiki, IMHO, is that it can cover in detail and contemporary terms subjects that other encyclopedias would not even consider. Ergo, bring on articles on Magnum, TC, Rick, and Higgins. --Buckboard 12:06, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
  • Too large to merge. What details would you cut?? I agree with Buckboard. Bring on more articles! --Babygator23 22:47, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Other[edit]

  • If there was to be an infobox on this page, what should it be for? An actor, a fictional character...I really do not know. It is currently set on actor because I could not get it to work otherwise. If you know what to do, please help. Babygator23 03:11, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

+++++ Also, he has played several parts where he smokes cigars, including in the tv shows Friends and Las Vegas. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.209.8.93 (talk) 16:22, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Birthdate[edit]

In Episode 2.15 "Try To Remember" (About five minutes into the episode) Thomas tells Dr. Ibold that his birthday is August 8, 1944. Moms2398 (talk) 17:43, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Do we have a cite for the name?[edit]

I just saw another site say he, like Hillerman's character, was a "III", not a "IV".

Navy Rank[edit]

Are we sure about his rank upon resigning from the Navy? Just watched the first episode on Hulu, and in it he is referred to as Lieutenant, and wears the rank insignia of a US Navy Lt. on his uniform. While I know shows like this often have "facts" like this change from episode to episode and season to season, Belliario's shows are usually pretty good with military information like this being consistent.----LaszloKreizler (talk) 15:36, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In "Memories Are Forever", Part 1, when MacReynolds tells Magnum that he is "reactivated", he calls him "Commander". Thomas corrects MacReynolds by saying "I was a Lieutenant" refering to his rank when he resigned. Moms2398 (talk) 17:34, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Magnum's full name and his gun[edit]

His name is Thomas Sullivan Magnum IV, not III. His father was III, as you can see here in this screenshot from the final episode ("Resolutions")[1]. Also, the usual prop for Magnum's pistol was a Colt MK IV/Series 70 Government Model chambered for 9mm Luger. The main prop that was used on the show is on display at the NRA Museum[2]. Despite the prop being chambered for 9mm (for better cycling of blanks), it was referred to as a "forty-five" multiple times on the show. A Star Model B and a Star Model BM were only used in two episodes, both of which were in the first season ("China Doll" [Model B and Model BM] and "Adelaide" [Model BM]). In other words, the part of the article that says, "in actuality, a similar-looking 9mm Star Model BM, as .45 ACP 1911s of the time could not reliably cycle blanks," is highly misleading. 1911s chambered for 9mm cycled blanks just fine, which is why they used one for the main prop. The use of Star pistols was just an anomaly. – MaximRecoil (talk) 09:28, 12 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Younger version?[edit]

The text of the article had read: "Jay Hernandez portrays a younger version of Thomas Magnum in the 2018 reboot of the series."

This is inaccurate though, as Hernandez was 40 years old when the new version of Magnum premiered in 2018, whereas Tom Selleck was just 35 when the original version premiered in 1980. -2003:CA:8729:D2FF:813:EC44:6365:2E1A (talk) 13:10, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

wife and child section[edit]

surely Durant would be her third husband, unless the marriage to Magnum was null due to her first husband being found alive? that's not clear though 2A0A:EF40:102A:9201:D9B5:281D:8B82:D81B (talk) 14:18, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
