One Small Step synopsis[edit]

Hello @Jgstokes: The synopsis of this episode does need changing in line with my edit. The change foregrounds the events shown in the episode, rather than an interpretation of an ambiguous scene. The episode shows Nicky fail to leave home as planned after, as shown, having a conversation with his father about watching historical events as a family, and then sharing a beer with him while his mother joins them. His exact reasons for staying are not made explicit, and certainly there is no direct mention of Stanley's abusive nature at this point. The idea that he stays to protect his mother is perhaps truer to the series as a whole, but it is pure analysis from a previous editor (or an unsourced lift from production interviews/reviews elsewhere, I suppose). Stating more simply that Nicky chooses to remain with his family removes this interpretation, sticking to a description of what occurs on screen, which is what synopses should do. I therefore invite you to self-revert. U-Mos (talk) 08:00, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

With all due respect, the onus is not on me to self-revert. That's not how Wikipedia works. Consistent with Wikipedia's policies, I boldly reverted your additions to the plot. I requested a source for the purpose of verifying that the changes you are wanting to make are accurate. My actions are consistent with Wikipedia policies. In your comment above, you laid out your reasons for the changes, which I appreciate. But until your reasoning is proven accurate (by citing a source verifying the details of the content in dispute), Wikipedia policy is to keep the page as-is. In general, you are correct that plot summaries do not require a source. But when content is in disupte, the onus is on the person wanting to change the episode description to verify by reliable sourcing that the changes are justified, accurate, and correct. That is also consistent with Wikipedia policies. So if your preferred synopsis wording is verified by a reliable source, your additions can be restored to to page. Thank you. What needs to be understood here is that my edit does not contradict the existing version. There is no question that Nicky decides to remain with his family; my objection is the assertion of his reasoning in the current synopsis. If the current version read that Nicky "stands Sally up so he can train to become an astronaut", would you be demanding a source that this doesn't happen in the episode? This is equally WP:ANALYSIS. But nevertheless, if it will resolve matters I've located a source that describes the ambiguity of his decision (and even speculates that it may be about his mother, possibly the original source of this confusion) and will add that to the article now.
