Not sure where to get information on India's smaller villages[edit]

Where can we find out about India's local-government Prachayat strucutres? It would be nice to list out whether the president of the local Prachayat (government) is from this village.

It would be nice if somebody could provide some unique information on this village. For example, what is the main work of the village (i.e. "a small agricultural village located just north of the Kaveri River...")?

Also, maybe it would be more worthwhile to list distance to nearby MAJOR locations. The list to nearby villages is factual but it doesn't really provide much geographical context.

Google Maps mentions there being a Thiruthiyamalai Lake, but satallite imagery shows it as a sort of forest. Maybe figure out what is really there?
