What's the Bird?[edit]

Can anyone tell me what's the name of the bird appeared on some of ASMZ's album covers, Efrim's guitar and tattoos on few of the members? 24.87.7.121 22:22, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I asked Jessica about it after their show last night, she says there isn't any particular meaning she's aware of, aside from that they like birds. Template[edit]

Is an A Silver Mt. Zion template really necessary? Every single link can be found on the band's page, it looks fairly messy, and the majority of the members don't even have their own pages. I'll leave it alone for now for simplicity's sake, but can anyone give justification to its existence? Nievved 03:51, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article Structure[edit]

The structure of this article is very poor. The Overview section is disorganized, and inconsistent. Also, the Discography is pitiful. It needs to be completely re-done. I do not have a lot of time, and cannot do it all at once, but if no one else wants to attempt it, I can manage it slowly. I think the band deserves better representation than this. Furthermore, what is the point of the overview? I have read through it several times and it seems too subjective, especially in the second paragraph when it starts speculating about the meaning of songs. It is very un-encyclopedic; at the very least these things should be cited. I agree. Yesterday I started to remedy this (hopefully) by restructuring the whole page and building a history section with sub-sections for each album. They're not all there yet and, for those that are, I hope to expand to include information about gigs, touring and critical reception. At some point, I'm going to get rid of the Overview section altogether, unless someone beats me to it ;-) I'll build in some more factual information about Name Origins, Influences, Lyrics, Artwork and Genre confusion further down the page - previously, this stuff about them renaming every album has been far too near the top of the page, as was information related to Godspeed, which I imagine would confuse the hell out of anyone looking for a simple summary of the band. Hopefully, when I'm "done" with it, the article will be a nice introduction to the band for those who know nothing about Godspeed or "post-rock". They deserve their own page and while this stuff is important background information, it shouldn't overshadow them. Renaming the Article[edit]

Okay, I restructured the article mostly though there's still loads more that needs adding. I will try and do this in the next month or so unless someone beats me to it. However, I think the article should be renamed "Silver Mt Zion" to reflect the new content. "A Silver Mt. Zion" was the name of the band during the first album and this subsequently went through many changes. Putting simply "Silver Mt Zion" covers the band a lot better avoiding some confusion. It's also what their record label calls them for shorthand.

It may seem trivial but this is my favourite band and I think they deserve to be recognised properly as a matter of respect. I don't want to go ahead and change it right away as I want to get some opinion first. However, if I don't hear back in the next few weeks, I'll go ahead and sort out a re-direct.

How do we get the article elevated to a better class (assuming it's of that calibre now)?

If you're going to go with "Silver Mt Zion" as the name throughout the article, then you should name the article that way. Bandname Change[edit]

The name isn't Thee Silver Mt. Zion, it's Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra. The site where the source of the name change says they dropped the Tra-la-la part, not the Memorial Orchestra part. Officially it is Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra. I notice the name version they used on Horses in the Sky (Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band) isn't listed in the "previously"-list. The only difference from the Born Into Trouble name is Thee instead of The. ZIONISTS[edit]

Genres[edit]

The genres listed aren't enough, I think. I personally would hesitate calling the band post-rock, but that's just my opinion. Anyhow, anyone agree we should list chamber music as one of the genres? None of the genres listed necessarily reflect the orchestral aspect of their music, and I think because the music is more orchestral than, for example, GY!BE, that aspect deserves recognition (and should be listed). —Polynilium (talk) 12:25, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
