What's the Bird?[edit]

Can anyone tell me what's the name of the bird appeared on some of ASMZ's album covers, Efrim's guitar and tattoos on few of the members? 24.87.7.121 22:22, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I asked Jessica about it after their show last night, she says there isn't any particular meaning she's aware of, aside from that they like birds. She also said that her own bird tattoos (on each shoulder blade) are a "personal thing" unrelated to the band. Pimlottc 13:54, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! There concert was brilliant wasn't it!? I was at their concert last month. Well I figured the bird was some kind of swallow. 24.87.7.121 07:59, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

im sorry i dont know how wikipedia works, and this is almost positively not the place to leave a comment, but someone needs to fix the minutemen link. its the minutemen band, not the shitty patriots. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.160.73.164 (talk) 03:28, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Template[edit]

Is an A Silver Mt. Zion template really necessary? Every single link can be found on the band's page, it looks fairly messy, and the majority of the members don't even have their own pages. I'll leave it alone for now for simplicity's sake, but can anyone give justification to its existence? Nievved 03:51, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I thought it would look rather good. Lots of bands seem to have them with only 2 or 3 releases, and it's always something that can be expanded on in the future. Lugnuts 10:32, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

If anyone has the chance, please try and add some sources for statements you feel will be questioned or found dubious. I will add some sources over the next couple of days. You can use Wikicite as a very easy generator for great references. Angular 05:31, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article Structure[edit]

The structure of this article is very poor. The Overview section is disorganized, and inconsistent. Also, the Discography is pitiful. It needs to be completely re-done. I do not have a lot of time, and cannot do it all at once, but if no one else wants to attempt it, I can manage it slowly. I think the band deserves better representation than this. Any suggestions? --–m.f (tc) 13:14, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, my God!! I would like to thank Twas Now for the wonderful job of restructuring the discography. Looks great! I'll try to take some time this weekend (if no one beats me to it) to redo the Overview section. Thanks again Twas Now for the quick response. --–m.f (tc) 00:14, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Furthermore, what is the point of the overview? I have read through it several times and it seems too subjective, especially in the second paragraph when it starts speculating about the meaning of songs. It is very un-encyclopedic; at the very least these things should be cited. We should try to meld it into something more professional. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.192.68.118 (talk) 05:06, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Yesterday I started to remedy this (hopefully) by restructuring the whole page and building a history section with sub-sections for each album. They're not all there yet and, for those that are, I hope to expand to include information about gigs, touring and critical reception. At some point, I'm going to get rid of the Overview section altogether, unless someone beats me to it ;-) I'll build in some more factual information about Name Origins, Influences, Lyrics, Artwork and Genre confusion further down the page - previously, this stuff about them renaming every album has been far too near the top of the page, as was information related to Godspeed, which I imagine would confuse the hell out of anyone looking for a simple summary of the band. Hopefully, when I'm "done" with it, the article will be a nice introduction to the band for those who know nothing about Godspeed or "post-rock". They deserve their own page and while this stuff is important background information, it shouldn't overshadow them. Any thoughts on all this? --Catabolic kid (talk) 10:21, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming the Article[edit]

Okay, I restructured the article mostly though there's still loads more that needs adding. I will try and do this in the next month or so unless someone beats me to it. However, I think the article should be renamed "Silver Mt Zion" to reflect the new content. "A Silver Mt. Zion" was the name of the band during the first album and this subsequently went through many changes. Putting simply "Silver Mt Zion" covers the band a lot better avoiding some confusion. It's also what their record label calls them for shorthand.

It may seem trivial but this is my favourite band and I think they deserve to be recognised properly as a matter of respect. I don't want to go ahead and change it right away as I want to get some opinion first. However, if I don't hear back in the next few weeks, I'll go ahead and sort out a re-direct.

How do we get the article elevated to a better class (assuming it's of that calibre now)?

Catabolic kid (talk) 16:27, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Def. needs some consensus. The article has one name (A Silver Mt. Zion), the lead-in text has another (Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra and Tra-La-La Band) and the infobox a third (Silver Mt. Zion). Lugnuts (talk) 18:31, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you're going to go with "Silver Mt Zion" as the name throughout the article, then you should name the article that way. Having the full name as title is not completely accurate and looks untidy and terrible. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.240.213.148 (talk) 03:53, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, having the full name as the title is completely accurate; having anything else as the title would be inaccurate. − Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 07:10, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to establish what the correct title of this page should be. As far as I can tell, we have three options. #1 - leave it as it is. #2 Rename to Silver Mt. Zion. #3 Rename to Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band. See below for rationales for 2 and 3. Thanks

Bandname Change[edit]

As of last year, the band has changed their name to Thee Silver Mt. Zion. How should we account for this in the title of the article? Miuq (talk) 13:43, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I renamed the article. Wknight94 talk 14:42, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The name isn't Thee Silver Mt. Zion, it's Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra. The site where the source of the name change says they dropped the Tra-la-la part, not the Memorial Orchestra part. And if you look at the release page, you'll find the name with Memorial Orchestra still there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.166.113.70 (talk) 20:52, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I'm confused! What's their offical name now?! Lugnuts (talk) 09:40, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Their websites lists "Thee Silver Mt. Zion" and "Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra Band". Pick one, I guess. Rocketsfall (talk) 21:19, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Officially it is Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra. That's what's on their latest album, that's what's on the concert tickets, and that's what their record label says (they only use shorter varieties as shorthand). http://cstrecords.com/thee-silver-mt-zion/ 79.160.162.153 (talk) 00:45, 8 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Why is this article still named "Thee Silver Mt. Zion"? They have released albums under many different varieties of the name, but this is a variety they never have used officially, and there's no reason for it being the name the article is under.79.160.162.153 (talk) 22:27, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, I'm moving it. - Wetdogmeat (talk) 01:36, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I notice the name version they used on Horses in the Sky (Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band) isn't listed in the "previously"-list. The only difference from the Born Into Trouble name is Thee instead of The. Should it still be listed, or is it to minor of a difference to justify it clogging up the list even more? 128.39.244.113 (talk) 09:46, 13 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Actually just remembered that the "Thee" version is also used on 13 Blues. So if only one of the versions should be listed, then I'd go with the one that has been used the most.128.39.244.113 (talk) 13:10, 19 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

ZIONISTS[edit]

Are they Zionists? Thierry Amar is a typically Zionist name (Sephardic, 99.9% of whom happen to be Zionist Israel lovers). And who would insert the word "zion" in their band name, no matter the context --184.161.152.198 (talk) 21:33, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • No, they're anarchists, and Efrim at least is an atheist (not sure about the other members). The band's name is a reference to Mount Zion as a metaphor for faith in a difficult time ("the holy mountain in the awful desert") Source - Wetdogmeat (talk) 22:12, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I can't imagine an arabian or moslem band have the word ZION in their name. It has indeed a poetic relation to zionism --184.161.152.198 (talk) 03:07, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In Popular Culture[edit]

The film "I Come With The Rain" includes a lot of Silver Mt Zion songs throughout the film. Someone better at Wikipedia stuff than me might consider adding that info! 205.143.205.150 (talk) 14:55, 8 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Genres[edit]

The genres listed aren't enough, I think. I personally would hesitate calling the band post-rock, but that's just my opinion. Anyhow, anyone agree we should list chamber music as one of the genres? None of the genres listed necessarily reflect the orchestral aspect of their music, and I think because the music is more orchestral than, for example, GY!BE, that aspect deserves recognition (and should be listed). —Polynilium (talk) 12:25, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Past tense[edit]

Given that the future of the band is uncertain and they have a history of reforming it seems a bit off that the wiki is in past tense — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:8109:A4BF:DACC:0:0:0:B22E (talk) 05:45, 9 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
