In the mathematical literature on catastrophe theory, the term "swallowtail catastrophe" is the preferred spelling. The article should be careful to use the correct spelling when referring to a specifically mathematical concept. — Aetheling 14:30, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sense of humor[edit]

When René Thom said, "I can assure you that Spain pivoted precisely — not in the area of — but exactly there where the Railway Station in Perpignan stands today," he was almost certainly pulling Dalí's leg. There was no single center of rotation, and no such precision to be had about any of them [1]. I imagine that for his part, Dalí was almost certainly aware of the joke, and took it in the spirit in which it was offered.
