Contested deletion[edit]

This page should not be deleted as an unambiguous copyright infringement because it has been summarized and rephrased. I am also the author of the page on californiaartclub.org and am aware of copyright concerns, which is why the information presented on the Wikipedia page has been rewritten. Where direct quotes appear, original sources are given. Otherwise, it is presented in my own words, and different from any other sources. Rather than a wholesale deletion of the page, if someone would point out specific concerns I would be happy to fix them. Ericmerrell (talk) 22:39, 15 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • THIS link shows the material that is directly copied. Some of it is factual, which can't be copyrighted of course, while other parts use quotes as primary content rather than supporting content, which violates transformativeness. (Quotes should support and contextualize the text you write, but should not otherwise be primary sources of content.) Lastly, following this article and the source side-by-side shows the same general flow: the same things described in the same order using a lot of the same words, thus is still too closely paraphrased. The approach we prefer is the same as if you were asked to verbally describe the Club without an open book in front of you. That's the level of paraphrase we're shooting for.
  • If you are the copyright owner and wish to donate the source content under so it can be used here, you can follow the steps at WP:DCM. Please feel free to ask me anything further, thanks! CrowCaw 23:02, 15 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

How do I make updates to the page so that it meets the requirements without others reverting it back to its original (contested) version? Thanks Ericmerrell (talk) 23:53, 15 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Just make sure to use the edit summary to state you're re-writing for copyright reasons, and nobody should revert that. CrowCaw 00:04, 16 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

To disclose: I am affiliated with the California Art Club (as a member, not a paid contributor); that organization is only slightly related to the subject of this page. I will not receive compensation for writing this article.

I wrote this page because I know of no other person who has knowledge of the history of this club, and it is relevant to the history of art in Los Angeles and Southern California. Since the page was flagged, I have revised and shortened it further in an attempt to better adhere with Wikipedia’s guidelines, and I believe I’ve done it from a neutral point of view.

I welcome further suggestions to improve it. Thanks Ericmerrell (talk) 15:45, 16 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
