When was this written? Why is it notable? RJFJR (talk) 15:40, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is notable because it is a well-known fable, and it touches on greed, psychology, and morals. Many a time have humans exploited each other for various purposes. -24.131.169.195 (talk) 13:05, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notability, for Wikipedia's purposes, should be defined in terms of WP:NOTABILITY. If it's "well-known" it should be quantified in some regard and referenced that it is. Barkeep Chat | $ 13:29, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New version[edit]

One hopes that the rewrite will lay to rest the doubts expressed above and the concern shown by an administrator last year that the article lacks credible references. It would be nice if the article could now be upgraded from Stub class. Mzilikazi1939 (talk) 23:36, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

deprecated positioning of box[edit]

I'm not sure what it is about the positioning of the box that is deprecated, but if you could elabroate we could probably find a positioning that was not deprecated. ----Pontificalibus 10:28, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The Manual of Style clearly advises against having illustrations or text boxes opposite each other. However, the other objection to this item is that it does not illustrate anything in the text. It is established there that the fable was known in several countries from the 1500s and commonly mentioned. There seems little point in singling out one of these references for such prominent display when there are already so many. Sweetpool50 (talk) 17:03, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
