??? I am confused why anyone would not see the significance as self-evident. This band holds the world record for youngest music group ever banned from radio. In the rock punk genre, that is a culturally significant and notable fact. Do you want me to laboriously explain that cultural significance of that fact in the article??? • No I want you to source it. I can't find anything about this group. Myspace doesn't count. Anyone can make that claim. And yes, as laboriously possible, pelase educate me as to why that is significant to any culture. Wow, they were banned from radio. Maybe I'm missing something, but that isn't honestly that big of a deal. --Cyrus Andiron 11:44, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • And I seriously hope that we aren't going to start plucking out people that hold world records and create articles for them. For example, does the guy with the longest fingernails deserve a page simply because he cannot conform to cultural standards for grooming? --Cyrus Andiron 11:51, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ok I'll see if I can source it, it was covered in the Australian media ... and yes, you are missing something here ... this is youth culture and punk rock, where rebellion and counter-culture and upsetting the mainstream establishment IS the point ... being the youngest band in the world banned by radio may not be notable outside the rock music culture and context, but so what? Wik is full of obscure facts that have little noteworthiness beyond their particular context.

By the way, yes the guy with the longest fingernails in the world should be in Wik. Is this intellectual superciliousness? Marcusvox 11:56, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • It's not agrrogance, it's common sense. But moving on. Any band has to meet the criteria laid down in WP:MUSIC. If you would kindly read that criteria you would see that they do not fulfill any of those requirements. I'm sorry, but simply getting banned does not make a group inherently notable. --Cyrus Andiron 12:02, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Cyrus, I think you are missing the point here. This particular music group are now world famous because of the ban - they are on the same page in the record book with people like Michael Jackson and Cher. If that is not being NOTABLE in contemporary pop and music culture then what is? Marcusvox 12:19, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have added some sources. I think the page should stand. I plan to do more on youth and counter-culture. This is a good start. ;-) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Marcusvox (talkcontribs) 12:35, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the WP:MUSIC guidelines say: "Important note: Failing to satisfy the notability guidelines is not a criterion for speedy deletion." But leaving that aside, I believe sufficient notability is clearly established. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Marcusvox (talkcontribs) 12:40, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The WP:MUSIC guidelines include inter alia: "Has won or placed in a major music competition." --- they qualify on those grounds alone. Marcusvox 12:55, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. However, it would be really nice if somebody could explain in the article why a band called "Who's Ya Daddy" is credited with a win by a band called the Jaywalks. :) --Moonriddengirl 12:58, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
According to their official myspace, they were originally known as Who's Your Daddy, but are now known as The Jaywalks. I moved the article accordingly. Darksun 13:06, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
