In my book the moral is in plainer English: "Better poverty without a care than wealth with its many obligations"

The original moral from Greek times, and persisiting in English into the 18th century, was more practical. What is quoted above first appeared in the collection of Aesop's Fables by Vernon Watkins (1908).
