The moral[edit]

In my book the moral is in plainer English: "Better poverty without a care than wealth with its many obligations" Andrew ranfurly (talk) 22:06, 25 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The original moral from Greek times, and persisiting in English into the 18th century, was more practical. What is quoted above first appeared in the collection of Aesop's Fables by Vernon Watkins (1908). I have added to the article here the pithier expression of the same sentiment given in Townsend's collection. Sweetpool50 (talk) 23:56, 25 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
