I fixed some grammatical errors in the story summary - changed all the singular forms of "donkey" to plural forms.Emma heiter (talk) 21:18, 28 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Citations[edit]

Can anyone provide citations for the names and the time-period as presented in this article ? Miriam Lichtheim has Khun-anup, Nemtynakht and Rensi as the names. Also story is set in Ninth/Tenth dynasty around Herakleopolis. See also [1] & [2] Markh 23:04, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The names used in this article are those used originally by Petrie in his Egyptian Tales--I think he called it the "Peasant and the Workmen." Why not just change it and cite Lichtheim (who uses the same names as Parkinson actually)? — Zerida 05:05, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Will do, just didn't want to change them without checking – I thought it was probably old translations. This is a great 'tale' and has so much more to it than this article suggests. Will try and do it justice. Markh 08:46, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please feel free to make it better; I did what I could with the few sources I could find. If you can please post here information I would love to read new sources. I will continue looking for sources and will continue helping the Ancient Egypt Project... Zulu, King Of The Dwarf People (71.196.86.109) 22:28, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added more information about the history of the tale and I added the date when the tale was approximately composed. I also added information about the style of the text. I got my information from this source: [1] Emma heiter (talk) 18:49, 28 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I added information about the characters in the book and what their roles were in the story. I got my information from these sources: [2][3]Emma heiter (talk) 03:17, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I rewrote the summary of the story, and I rewrote all the information I had previously entered about the characters in the story. I got my information from the two sources cited above and one new source: [4] Emma heiter (talk) 21:14, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I added textual history. I mentioned the conflicts with finding the author(s) and the exact time period that the story originated from. Kaymuntz (talk) 21:45, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Golden Rule?[edit]

This is linked to in the Golden Rule page, but the parable does not seem directly relevant. Please clarify, if it is. Tks. Benefac (talk) 18:41, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think you could take it as an example of the "Silver Rule" - that one should not do unto others what one does not want for oneself. It does seem a bit of a stretch to link the 2 articles. On an unrelated note, this article would benefit from a reference to the approximate date or age of the heiroglyphic source(s). --76.108.248.254 (talk) 03:56, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
