Translation?[edit]
Was this a translation per se? The Guardian today mentions it as a translation in the context of Biden quoting him in his acceptance speech as the Dems' 2020 candidate. I wasn't aware that Heaney did Greek but here we have "In the opening chorus of the play, Heaney's translation emphasizes the role of poetry as "the voice of reality and justice" in expressing "terrible events"." Is this a translation from the original Greek or an adaptation of someone else's translation? Nothing wrong with that and I am not implying some sort of plagiarism. I see from the piece that "It is dedicated in memory of poet and translator Robert Fitzgerald." but that does not say that Fitzgerald was the original translator. If Heaney did translate Sophocles' play from the original it seems odd that it appears to be a one-off. Cross Reference (talk) 12:39, 23 August 2020 (UTC)
