one of the strangest compilations of the band?[edit]

"It is one of the strangest compilations of the band." in what sense? compiling the best of BS`s 1st 8 albums, before dio took over from ozzy is not strange at all. pls explain.

ALSO... "The album was released on the label Castle, who released two CD versions of this album in the UK,[2] both with the same cover art and songs." do u mean two issues? if they have the same songs and cvr art, it sounds like you are talking about 2 releases of the same version. maybe more accurate to write that Castle released the album twice, or that astle re-released the album. it`s not a terribly notable detail, anyway. The entry is wrong in several respects. Castle put out a double-LP called Black Sabbath: The Collection back in 1985, CCSLP109. It uses the "Skull on a stick" photo on its cover (let's call it cover #1). Its track list was: 1. Paranoid 2. Behind The Wall Of Sleep 3. Sleeping Village 4. Warning 5. Warpigs 6. Hand Of Doom 7. Planet Caravan 8. Electric Funeral 9. Rat Salad 10. Iron Man 11. After Forever 12. Supernaut 13. St Vitus Dance 14. Wheels Of Confusion 15. Snowblind 16. Killing Yourself To Live 17. Sabra Cadabra 18. The Writ

-I used to own it. Here's a copy: http://eil.com/shop/moreinfo.asp?catalogid=447401 It was also released on cd in 1991 with a different cover (using a dubiously Naziesque "SS" design) as Castle Masters Collection: The Sabbath Collection, with a reduced tracklisting (since two vinyl discs don't fit on one cd). Here's cover #2: http://s.pixogs.com/image/R-643268-1144782065.jpeg It had 11 tracks, and aside from the missing 7, the order is the same (first 4 songs are the same, but Warpigs, Hand Of Doom, Planet Caravan, Electric Funeral, Rat Salad & Iron Man are removed, then After Forever, Supernaut, St Vitus Dance are present, but Wheels Of Confusion is removed. The rest are the same). At this point, no confusion. This cd was #CCSCD 109.

Then in 1992 Castle releases the compilation this entry discusses. The strange part I think the entry maker is referring to is that instead of just putting out the 1992 compilation as a different album with a new name, Castle reused the same boring name for a new product with a different cover (#3, shown in this entry). The '92 version is as per the entry: 1. Paranoid 2. Tomorrow's Dream 3. Back Street Kids 4. Symptom Of The Universe 5. Never Say Die 6. Junior's Eyes 7. Dirty Women 8. Am I Going Insane (radio) 9. Supernaut 10. The Wizard 11. A National Acrobat 12. Electric Funeral 13. Into The Void 14. Spiral Architect 15. Wicked World This set was designed by Hugh Gilmour, the chap who did many other Castle Sabbath re-releases, including the 4 cd box Under Wheels of Confusion (http://www.gilmourdesign.co.uk/case-studies/black-sabbath/ ) But just to really be annoying, Sanctuary then released the 1992 version again in 1999/2000 with cover #2, which had previously been used for the reduced-'85 tracklisting. http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=21913 http://www.metal-archives.com/albums/Black_Sabbath/The_Collection/71613

So to sum up, there was an 18-track LP "Collection" in 1985 (cover #1 only), an 11-track version of the same by 1991 (using cover #1 and the slightly tasteless "SS" cover #2), and a different 15-track "Collection" in '92 (same name, but the new Hugh Gilmour designed cover #3). Finally in 2000, Sanctuary Records Group goes back to the "SS" cover #2, but uses the 15-song '92 tracklisting. At least, that's as close as I can figure this mess out. 69.196.154.16 (talk) 23:10, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
