Release date[edit]

Most sources, including Wikipedia, listed October 20, 1929 as the release date. In addition to this date, The American Film Institute Catalog lists its premiere date as August 3, 1929 in New York. This ties in with Variety who report a first week gross to the 9th August. The film played for 4 or 5 weeks.

The Film Daily 1930 Yearbook lists the release date of October 20, 1929 however I am unclear as to what exactly this refers to (possibly release outside key markets?). Variety's October 2, 1929 issue shows that it had had its first week in LA at the Chinese (opening Tuesday 24 September), also its first week in Boston and Seattle, its fourth week in Philadelphia, third week in Portland and second week in Chicago so I don't think it is that useful to refer to the October 20th date.Sudiani (talk) 03:36, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
