Untitled[edit]

Did anyone know that Lyra's Oxford was to be included into the Book of Dust, but Mr. Pullman decided to make it seperate? I read it on bridgetothestars.net

Clues...[edit]

I am going to add something that Mr Pullman told me himself in a private conversation: look for clues in Lyra's Oxford for the setting of the adventure in the Book of Dust. By the way, no, I have failed totally to pick up the clues. Fuzzibloke 19:19, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup[edit]

I've made some preliminary cleanup edits here but really this whole article needs to be deleted or restarted with some actual sources. If this article is still in its current unsourced state when I come back, I'll probably just redirect it to something like His Dark Materials or something. --Tony Sidaway 03:51, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've added some sources - hopefully it doesn't need redirecting now. -- KittyRainbow (talk) 23:46, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dystopian[edit]

Dystopian? What? Who said it was a Dystopian novel (unless you're referring to the Magesterium's rule. Kausill 14:32, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I would agree that dystopian may not quite be the right term for the book, but the Magisterium definitely rules in a manner deserving of something similar Techno Tron15 (talk) 12:12, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

"will address the lack of positive portrayals of religion in the His Dark Materials books"[edit]

In the quoted article, the only statement about this upcoming novel is The Book of Dust will pick up Lyra's story two years on and also deal with some of the theological issues raised in the previous books.. I don't see how one can conclude that this would mean addressing the "lack" of positive portrayals of religion, I read it rather as picking up on the further fate of the Church in Lyra's world, maybe it tries to regain power, or there is a reformation or even revolution going on. I mean - spoiler ahead - God just whimsically died away in His Dark Materials, rendering religion even more pointless. --Mewtu (talk) 04:29, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In the reference ([1]) the reporter asks "What do you say to critics who ask where is the good that is done by religion [in His Dark Materials]?" and Pullman responds: "This is a big subject and I'm writing a big, big book in order to deal precisely with that question." Does that answer the query? Delsion23 (talk) 17:46, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Article in The Times mentions "The Imagination Chamber" and delayed Book of Dust finale[edit]

I can't see past the paywall, but there's a new article in The Times.

"The author on his new book The Imagination Chamber and the delayed Book of Dust finale, Twitterstorms and the impact that having the illness has had on his writing ..." Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 15:39, 17 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
