Dave & Connor's Withdrawal[edit]

I think that there should be a special marking for Dave & Connor's withdrawal in the chart. Other competitive reality shows have such a marking on their Wikipedia pages, and technically Dave & Connor are the first team to Withdraw from the race. The other two teams who "quit" were in last place on an elimination leg anyway and simply elected not to even bother going through with the difficult tasks. Dave and Connor specifically went to the Pitstop (they were actually the first ones there, albeit not having completed any of the tasks for the leg) and said that they had to withdraw due to Dave's injury. Just my opinion on the matter. I think that simply listing them in 8th, even with the note, seems to imply a similar situation to the "quits" in Seasons 5 and 15, when it was completely different. ThisIsLikeThe8thNameIveTried (talk) 08:11, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Other shows aren't races like this one. Also it causes problems when we have no 8th place and just jump from 9th to 7th.—Ryulong (琉竜) 08:12, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's a special circumstance, though. The problem with trying to keep with the status quo is twofold:
  • Dave & Connor weren't the eighth team to check in — they arrived first as they skipped all the tasks. Therefore, "8th" is incorrect in this regard.
  • They specifically said they were going to withdraw — Phil confirmed this at the end of the episode — and made no attempt to compete in the leg. As far as I can tell, everything we saw do in the episode was a formality. A leg placement designation implies otherwise, and is misleading.Jedzz (talk) 08:27, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
All right. Although I think it requires more than a simple color change (which I instituted before removing it thinking it was not necessary).—Ryulong (琉竜) 08:47, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I finally got to watching the episode. It's not something to make important outside of a footnote like usual.—Ryulong (琉竜) 13:42, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'd have to agree that while they did withdraw, the race treated them as failing to do any of the tasks, incurring all such penalties as such, and effectively coming in last on the leg. A footnote that they travelled and withdrew should be made note of. The only way this would be different is come the finale, where they are placed within the waiting teams at the finish mat (which are in order of elimination) - if they aren't 8th, maybe that's something different but right now that's the way we should treat the table. --MASEM (t) 14:07, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I concur. Dave & Connor were officially eliminated from the race in 8th place, and the reason why (they had to withdraw due to Dave's injury) is already explained in the footnotes. No special symbols for their withdrawal are needed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.102.110.129 (talk) 15:25, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
And just to add on, they were NOT the first team to medically withdraw from the Race. Paul & Amie from Season 1 withdrew when they found the Pit Stop by chance, but they decided not to continue because of Amie's food poisoning. Marshall & Lance from Season 5 also withdrew when one of the brothers (can't remember which one) was too injured to complete the leg. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.74.62.104 (talk) 17:54, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy[edit]

Is this notable-- "‘Amazing Race’ episode set in Hanoi sparks outrage over use of B-52 as prop, communist song" and if so, how should it be integrated into the article? ProfessorTofty (talk) 19:13, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's Fox News, who aren't partial, so not really. They're cherry picking.—Ryulong (琉竜) 20:08, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I might be open to a mention of this "controversy" if multiple independent reliable sources discuss it, but right now all we have is this FNC story and some forum chatter. —KuyaBriBriTalk 20:38, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Here are a few other sources that mention this. [1] [2] [3]. Thoughts? --Philpill691 (talk) 13:46, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's reasonable to include with the other sources, something as simple as "A task in Hanoi included the use of a pop song regarding the Communist party. After it's broadcast, the network was criticized for including this song. CBS say (somequote)". Nothing too detailed, but it is of note to include. --MASEM (t) 15:02, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've written up a paragraph.—Ryulong (琉竜) 15:09, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
CBS just aired a disclaimer regarding the matter prior to tonight's episode. ProfessorTofty (talk) 00:46, 25 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Leg 8's Switchback[edit]

So in the preview of next week's episode, there seems to be a switchback from season 14 where teams had to transport cheese on a hill. Especially that Phil says that teams will revisit a challenge from the past. I just wanna make sure that we will include this in the episode's description or something. In fact, can we add it right now, now we know? Just asking. ─ Fabzzz talk 01:57, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No. We'll add it when the episode airs.—Ryulong (琉竜) 03:09, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hair of the Dog bar task?[edit]

I dunno what kind of promotional photo you saw, but I think the Hair of the Dog bar was just part of the Pit Stop. It's probably where the teams went to eat. 174.1.50.249 (talk) 04:29, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you click the link it shows Max & Katie dancing next to someone.—Ryulong (琉竜) 05:13, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So? Maybe they were dancing during the Pit Stop. 174.1.50.249 (talk) 00:00, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
All we know is that we know they went there. Anything else is an assumption.—Ryulong (琉竜) 02:32, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I would think it's a pretty big assumption to assume that it's part of the race course at all. The teams don't just go to sleep on the Pit Stop mat and wake up when it's time for the next leg. They go to a hotel to sleep, sometimes they'll go somewhere else to eat. Maybe they were at this restaurant/bar, a catchy song came on, and people started dancing, so Max thought he'd join in. You can't claim assumption when you're making an assumption yourself. 174.1.50.249 (talk) 04:22, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well, maybe if you actually looked at the photo that was linked to in the footnote, you'll see a bunch of Vietnamese women holding Race envelopes and Max and Katie dancing with one of them. I find it more likely that this was an unaired part of the course considering you have two yellow envelopes in view than it being some random shit that the racers do on downtime between legs.—Ryulong (琉竜) 04:40, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Leg summaries[edit]

Will someone please update the legs as the show is airing like what has been done for the past 3 years? I was not the only editor updating this and now that I'm halfway around the world I can't update it myself anymore.—Ryulong (琉竜) 12:20, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Leg 7 speeding tickets[edit]

Regarding the Leg 7 speeding tickets, I don't think it's appropriate to put this in the "Results" section, as the way it was portrayed on-air, local laws required them to pay the fines that day; it was not portrayed as a penalty or requirement imposed on them by the Race. The last time I recall a TAR team getting a speeding ticket was in Season 13, and the team there was assessed a 30-minute penalty at the Pit Stop, but that was announced by Phil. If this should be mentioned at all on this article, it can be mentioned in "Development and filming".

It's entirely possible that off-camera the teams were instructed to pay the ticket immediately in order to comply with local law (since they would be leaving the country the next day) and that the production crew didn't assess a penalty because they decided the time spent backtracking to pay the ticket was penalty enough. Of course, none of that can be included on this article since it's just speculation on my part. —KuyaBriBriTalk 14:39, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Just because there was no observed penalty does not mean we should not note it in some fashion.—Ryulong (琉竜) 14:59, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It can be noted in the filming section. I think we can find recaps that mention the speeding ticket (I saw a few), and note that unlike the last time a team was caught speeding (S13) no apparent penalty was assessed. But it's not a result thing if there is no stated penalty. --MASEM (t) 15:57, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Masem. Jedzz (talk) 16:42, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Colin was almost arrested in Season 5, but we don't mention that in the results. This is the same thing; it's an occurrence that happened during the leg that was outside of the official race course. Teams in Season 2 and 13 got penalties for speeding because, on certain legs of the race, it is stated in clues that they cannot speed. It's the rules. No mention in the episode is made of any rule-breaking or penalties, so this has no place on the leaderboard. If we have to include this, then there's a lot more we would have to include. 174.1.50.249 (talk) 05:31, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Leg 3 roadblock[edit]

According to CBS website, the roadblock in Leg 3 (Shemozzle Racing) when Anthony did the roadblock. [4]

Roadblocks for Bates and Anthony:

  • Leg 1: Anthony (Skydiving); Bates (Sandcastle) (1-1)
  • Leg 2: Anthony (Stilts) (1-2)
  • Leg 3: Anthony (Shemozzle Racing) (1-3)
  • Leg 4: Bates (Surfboard) (2-3)
  • Leg 5: Anthony (Memorize the sights and sounds of Vietnam) (2-4)
  • Leg 6: Bates (Scorpion) (3-4)

The developers are wrong as Bates didn't perform the Leg 3 roadblock.

In the roadblock of leg 3 which was Shemozzle Racing and racers did the correct roadblock in order: Connor, John, Winnie, Chuck, Jennifer, Mona, Meghan, Anthony, Katie.

What importance is this to the article?—Ryulong (琉竜) 13:29, 9 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The purpose on your reply that five people participated in the roadblock above were shown in the third episode. The rest were also cut off from the episode and neither was shown at the start in episode four. ApprenticeFan work 07:16, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Results are already up for Leg 9 (April 21)[edit]

I have noticed that the results are up for Leg 9 (April 21) despite the show not having aired yet on the east coast.

Meghan and Joey's YouTube channels[edit]

I added these and had it reverted as "unnecessary". Given that their reason for being on the show is these channels, and that there are no articles specifically about the two of them on Wikipedia, I disagree, but before I get into an edit war, I want some other opinions. Floatjon (talk) 16:43, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

They are irrelevant to the discussion of the article, in my opinion. We did not link to KevJumba's YouTube when he was on the show a few seasons ago.—Ryulong (琉竜) 17:31, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. We would otherwise be linking to any personal pages of any racer. If they are notable for their own article, we'll link them --MASEM (t) 22:30, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Start time[edit]

Who gives a damn that an episode started four minutes late in one time zone? Talk about irrelevant. In the fall seasons, three quarters of the episodes start late in Eastern after NFL games, and all those specific times aren't pointed out for good reason. They do not matter and have no relevance to the show itself, especially not a four-minute delay. How about a source? Like sources are going to point it out after the fact, and if they do, we still don't need to include it. Reywas92Talk 21:21, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Because we state it starts at 8 in both time zones when it was technically only 8 in one time zone. ANd the source would probably be the TV show announcing this delay on social media.—Ryulong (琉竜) 04:39, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Route[edit]

Shouldn't London, England be part of the route since they did a task there (Drink a pint of beer)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Girkish (talkcontribs) 03:33, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

England was not one of the locations during the final task. And anyway both Northern Ireland and England are part of the United Kingdom, so that one stop isn't all that necessary to mention in the header. We ignore such other small stopovers in other countries all the time.—Ryulong (琉竜) 03:50, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I believe he might be referring to the map. London should be included there 174.1.50.249 (talk) 06:39, 10 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
We really routinely ignore such minor visits. London was one of them because the line will be too confusing on the map.—Ryulong (琉竜) 07:13, 10 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This article is not about sovereign states[edit]

Thus comments in headings like Scotland is NOT a sovereign nation in its own right, as indicated by the United Nations that were only added this morning don't belong. Unclear as to why my reversion of this change was reverted in the first place. FDW777 (talk) 15:32, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
