Content discussion[edit]

IMHO, you're doing a good job on the article, but be careful it doesn't get too top-heavy with names of horses that no one other than we horse fans care about. Note as an example Crabbet Arabian Stud and Marbach stud, which hit the big guns but then call it good. Unless you want to write articles on all these horses (I redlinked the ones we ARE thinking about doing articles on, just so it's easier to cross-link later), I'd tread carefully. Remember that wikipedia is a general interest encyclopedia. There's room for some detail, but without the context of wikilinks to related articles, name-dropping alone just confuses the non-aficionado. Maybe ask one of the non-Arabian people in the project (i.e. anyone but me and Ealdgyth! LOL) to look at this and offer their thoughts.

Also, if you can find sources on your own that address the questions you had on the Akhal-Tekes, etc., just add them, don't feel that you have to be the expert, just do GOOD research! (I mean, I know nothing about the Misaki, didn't keep me from tuning up the article! LOL!) Montanabw(talk) 06:42, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Should have responded a long, long time ago... I can't cite it at the moment, but I read that the Tersk breeding program has considered its breeding program based on approx. 100 equally important individuals because the horses come from varied backgrounds. That made it hard to pick who was really important for this article. But yes, I can get carried away because *I* feel they're all important to the breed. ;-) Majorsky (talk) 03:19, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What's the point of the asterisks in front of the names of many of the horses? Zaporozhian (talk) 07:11, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In the USA, it denotes a horse imported from another country. The US registry discontinued this practice just a few years ago, (for a dumb reason, domestic breeders whined that the asterisk meant the registry thought imported horses were "better" --which they often are, but I digress--) However, most people still are in the habit of using them.
