Did the Kitchener Rangers really originate the Teddy bear toss?[edit]

I don't know the facts, but I just got home from a Kamloops Blazers hockey game (the Blazers lost to the Moose Jaw Warriors in shootout) where there was a Teddy bear toss. An announcer claimed that the custom originated in Kamloops. When I checked it out on the web, I noted that a local newspaper billed tonite as the nineteenth annual event, while the Rangers upcoming event is billed (on their web site) as their eighteenth annual event. In some other search results, i noted that the Kamloops Blazers web site claimed custom began in the 1993-94 season, which would corroborate to some extent the claim of a nineteen year recurring event. The claim that this custom originated in Kitchener is, at least in my mind, disputed.
