Land of the Assyrians[edit]

A quotation stating that Tatian said about himself that he was born in the land of the Assyrians, doesn't make him an Assyrian. He himself is called a Syrian by a couple of authors. I suggest we use that term, or leave it out altogether. --Benne ['bɛnə] _(talk) 01:55, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is a general confusion between the names Syrian and Assyrian, and some early writers obviously use them interchangably. It may be safer to say that Tatian was from the Roman province of Assyria. As for the Greek and Roman writers, anyone who lived east of Cappadocia and could eat with his mouth closed could be called a Syrian! — Gareth Hughes 12:53, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Syrian is Assyrian, that's what the Greeks called Assyrian, the native name is "Ashurian" but the greeks could not pronounce the 'sh' and it got replace with 'ss' and the 'A' got droped, it was sated by herodotus.

Vandalism??[edit]

And I just reverted your edits. It is Aramean motivated as seen in the previous edits of that IP. He is an Assyrian, and you can't change history. You can't have the page contricting its self. Well, his/her previous edits appear to have been in good faith and properly sourced, so qualifying the latest edits

Nice try. He also know as [Tatian the Assyrian]. Benne I know its hard for you to accept anything Assyrian, but you simply can't change history. However, you can do that in the dutch or german pages if you like. Chaldean 14:24, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image of John being used[edit]

The image included in this article is of John, not Tatian. It says so clearly in Syriac above his head. Someone seems to have lifted the image from a popular website that didn't make the direct claim that it was of Tatian. Anyway, it's wrong and misleading. We could leave it in with a caption saying that it's of John, but that seems a little pointless.
