Multiple reverts of Jewish labels[edit]

I see that Mr. Cohen has edited the article at least three times to remove text identifying him and his family as Jewish. Since he clearly does not wish to be identified as Jewish, what is the purpose of continuing to add this back to the article? It seems to go against the spirit of WP:BLPCAT. Request for discussion: religious/ethnic labels[edit]

Folks, can we talk about this? Unsourced additions of "Jewish-American" or "to Jewish parents" have been added at least five times by unregistered users, and are disputed by the subject. Kjtobo (talk) 16:11, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I am the subject of this article, and have no idea why unregistered users continue to add religious labels to this article. Neither myself nor my parents have any religious affiliation, and it is presumptuous to assume that everyone with the last name "Cohen" is, or associates as, Jewish. Is there a way to lock the page? I may wish to add further content to the page in the future, however. Chambermagic (talk) 16:21, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for weighing in, Mr. Cohen. Wikipedia pages are rarely fully locked, as Wikipedia is at heart an online community of individuals interested in building and using a high-quality encyclopedia in a spirit of mutual respect. Since we're having trouble here, I will request semi-protection to prevent edits by unregistered users, and will watch the page. Any editor (including yourself as the subject) can remove these unwanted labels immediately in accordance with Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons "Contentious material about living persons ... that is unsourced or poorly sourced – whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable – should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion." I hope that we can find the right level of oversight to keep the article an unbiased and accurate portrayal that won't be a source of stress. Kjtobo (talk) 17:22, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Jewish Museum[edit]

This addition seems quite legitimate, if not supported by 3rd-party sources. I still doubt that it is important enough to be included, though. Epicgenius (talk) 02:19, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It is supported only by the self-published sources. If we use such, there are several dozen "more important" bits of fluff to add. Thus we draw the lie at the first piece of lint here, especially considering the history of adding "Jewish" to the article by some IPS, over and over and over. And over. Mr. Cohen appears to prefer that no expect or implicit claim as to ethnicity or religion be placed in his BLP, and thus this addition seems more based on circumventing WP:BLPCAT than in actually listing an important event in his career. [1] is fairly good. From what I know of magicians, the greatest are the ones who do small things which are impossible - with enough money anyone can vanish the Statue of Liberty. The best also are modest real people who believe that hard work is the basis for success in the field, and would rather figure out how to do something better than how to duplicate the work of another magician. Dunninger relied on assistants in large audiences, Cohen appears to be able to work with small groups which may be more difficult. Collect (talk) 12:14, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the explanation.

Also, I have removed a troll's comments on this page. – Epicgenius (talk) 22:27, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Whatever source this section had is no longer listed: it had an unlinked "[14]" but there was nothing in the current reference #14 about it. One private dinner gig nine years ago does not sound like a major event in his career, so I've removed it. --Lord Belbury (talk) 20:36, 28 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
