What is this about?[edit]

I have a sailing boat and have sailed many thousands of miles in her. I have never heard of a stay mouse and don't what one of these is. I have to say, having read this article, I am none the wiser.

Can somebody who does know - and is fairly familiar with English too - have a go at clarifying this article, or shall we just delete it?

I, too, sail and have never heard of a stay mouse. I however did a google search and found one possible reference to the term at http://all-model.com/wolfram/PAGE76.html, which sort of shows what the article describes. -- Rmrfstar 22:47, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have worked as a bosun and rigger aboard several traditional boats and tallships, and have seen several examples of a stay mouse. There are strong references and descriptions in several books, notable "Lever's" aka "A Young Sea Officer's Sheet Anchor". A stay mouse is an example of rigging the knowledge and usage of is kept alive by those who still employ it, and has fallen out of any modern public usage. --Osteoderm 23:49, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
