Uncited materal[edit]

The following has been moved from the front page. It is uncited and IMO not particularly appropriate for an encyclopedia.

The graveyard has many interesting headstones, at the back of the church near the steps down into the town, there is a bellringers grave. In 1827 grave robbers stole the body of Lewis Breirley , before the stone was in place. His family and friends had this verse carved onto the headstone.

"Tho once beneath the ground his (Lewis Breirley) corpse was laid For use of surgeons it was thence convey'd Vain was the scheme to hide the impious theft The body taken shroud and coffin left Ye wretches who pursue this barb'rous trade Your corpses in turn may be convey'd Like his to some unfeeling surgeons room Nor can they justly meet a better doom."
