Old Bedians' Rugby Club[edit]

The Club was founded by Des Pastore MBE, in Chorltonville in 1954. Pastore was a Ganes Master at the College, as well as a record-holding Sale RUFC player [65 tries in a season]. He was a wartime fighter-pilot, who'd escaped from the Japanese at the fall of Singapore, and typified a type of flamboyant teacher, with a considerable hinterland, whom the College seemed to attract in the post-war years. He helped build up the Club, and oversaw its' move to its' present site at Millgate Lane in Didsbury. [1]. In 2002 the Commonwealth Games Rugby Sevens were played at the Club.

Notes and queries[edit]

Kudos to the estimable User:Mr Stephen for cleaning up the vandalism - although if Kim Jong-Il had founded the school I bet that Sports Day would be spectacular ! User:RexGregorian reminds us of the name of Frank Bonney. Does anyone have any further details ? [Also, if anyone can prove his restless ghost haunts the corridors, there's a $1M reward on offer]. 86.12.129.2 (talk) 09:38, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I can certainly provide further details of the unfortunate Mr Bonney, his misfortune is recorded in the College Log Books which I have been studying lately with a view to publishing a book on the 19th century history of the old place. He was one of two brothers who were pupils of the Catholic Grammar School at the time of the 1891 amalgamation. Barely a month after the new combined school was opened; 17th October 1891, Frank who had been singing in the choir in the Tribune during Benediction decided to mount the bannister of the main staircase and slide down to the ground floor, he lost his balance and plunged down instead, smashing his skull on the mosaic floor below, the alarm was raised and he was carried to one of the Masters rooms where he died at 2am the following day. Casartelli then had the unenviable task of going to see his parents and if the family hadn't suffered enough Frank's younger brother then died in WW1. As for his ghost, I remember in the early 90s myself and some fellow students mounting a ghost hunting expedition one evening, but I'm afraid that the results were inconclusive!!! College History[edit]

Now that the first official College History has been published, work need to be done to update and correct parts of this page. Just in case anybody is wondering where the new information is coming from. User:RexGregorian 16:58, 07 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It is a public school rather than independent.[edit]

Removal of substantial changes[edit]

I have removed some big changes. I think they would need discussing first. Best wishes (Msrasnw (talk) 16:43, 7 June 2016 (UTC))[reply]

Fyi, copyvio http://www.hmc.org.uk/schools/st-bedes-college/ Mr Stephen (talk) 18:00, 7 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am trying to update the college page to reflect recent changes and our 140th anniversary which is big milestone for any school. I would like the history pages to read in chronological order. In the school today section there are errors regarding timetable issues which have changed but the old number of the year groups has remained which I feel is of interest. I wanted to explain why we had chosen certain saints for house names. As in included in other school pages. I take on board your comments about peacockery and conflict of interest and I am keen not to repeat this. I would like to update the photos of the College estate, as some of the images used are over 10 years old. Best wishes (User:spfallonSPFallon (talk) 15:05, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
