Rewritten, retitled, and PROD removed[edit]

I removed the Prod ("essay, lack of sources, not notable, POV, probably OR, etc.") because although the subject was treated very poorly, the actual topic of Sport communication is a recognized disciplne (taught as a separate course in many universities), with multiple reliable sources which would allow this stub to be developed into a decent article. I've added one to reference this re-written stub and several more to a "Further reading section". Re the categories, I re-added the root categories for the moment as there do not seem to be any currently apt sub-categories. If anyone can find them, feel free to change them, but do not remove them leaving the article entirely without categories. Note that a previous version of this article entitled Communication in sports was deleted as a copyright violation. Voceditenore (talk) 09:34, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Evaluated Sports communication Article[edit]

The article does not do a great job at defining what sport communication is and it hardly even entertains the history of the concept and related issues within the field. This is coupled with a lack of content as the article only describes some aspects of sport communication without much detail. There is a need for a more concise definition and better presentation of the lead section which could be revamped to include some brief description of the major sections of which there are hardly any.

The article only goes into a little detail about the encompassing aspects of sport communication but fails to articulate the scope of these aspects. One part of the article is focused on "Opportunities" within sport communication but this section just speaks of the 'good' that can come from sport communication. This read as very normative writing as it was overly charitable of the positive parts of sports communication without much talk of the negatives that inevitably come with the field. The article talks about events from over a decade ago which shows that it has not been recently edited and does not contain recent sources of sport communication. The article goes into careers in sport communication which could be relevant but this takes away from the actual detail of sport communication and just reads as a list of possible career choices that are within the field without going into the different kinds of sport communication or the nature of the field itself. This could have been an opportunity to detail the different types of sport communication and how they relate to one another and what they can achieve, yet the article does not contain this information. Likewise, the article touches on the lack of representation in the field but does not account for the improvements to this respect that have occurred which could be due to the lack of recent information in the article. This could have been an opportunity to discuss the reasons for the lack of diversity and the areas that have improved through the years.

The article's tone is very biased in favor of the positives of sport communication and does little to report any negatives. It goes into stories of success that sport teams or players have shared but does little to cite or refute these claims. The article also champions the needs for sports communication during natural disasters as a means of coping with the tragedies but fails to give reasons for this or explain how this would help communities in light of disasters. The article is lacking in sourced material with very few citations and a short bibliography. This is coupled with the lack of information within the article itself as it only provides a surface review of sport communication. Some links work but others lead to paywall pages which tarnishes the freedom of information and does not allow one to verify the information presented. There is one image in the article but it fails to be of much significance and seems to be put in just to look nice. The caption to the image is shoddy at best and requires modification to better explain it. There is also no citation of the image in question. There is zero communication on the talk page which may indicate that the article has only been edited by one person and they did not do much in explaining where the sources came from and why they were used. This article has been rated as Stub-Class article that will need significant revision. Overall, the article at least fills a content gap but will require plenty of work to be brought up to standard.
