Starting the review[edit]

Generally, I will be going through each of the criteria below, in order. However I have a problem with Criterion 2 (see below), which needs to be addressed. I reserve the right to return to earlier comments or sections and revise or add to them until my review is finished. Unless otherwise indicated, maintain existing wikilinks and formatting. The review process should take about a week. I will allow an additional week for any requested changes to be made before making my decision. I have no problem with editors starting to fix up the article before I have finished, but caution them that I may not see their improvements until late in my review process: I may refer to problems that no longer exist.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 07:03, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Criterion 1[edit]

It is well written.

a. the prose is clear and concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; the spelling and grammar are correct: ; and
b. it complies with the manual of style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation::

Infobox & above

• Add background = group_or_band Otherwise it might be a person with first name or epithet: Spacey?
• Replace image_upright = 1.25 with landscape = yes
• alt text almost same as caption If so, use alt=refer to caption
• at origin we have Fremantle but in Lead and main text we have Perth. Be consistent. As Fremantle is a suburb of Perth, I'd stick Perth in infobox and Lead. Fremantle could be specified in main text as the Perth suburb of Fremantle (or similar) provided there is a reliable source for the group's founding. You should also add , Australia to the infobox
• at genre consider Infobox advice: "Genres that are sourced in the article itself do not require a source in the infobox" unless the article's history shows edit warring over this. In which case use hidden note e.g. <!-- genres listed here are sourced in the article text --> Of course, make sure that they are sourced in the main text. Furthermore Garage rock > garage rock.
• at current_members list concurrent joiners (i.e. founders) in alphabetical order. Later member(s) in order of joining.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 09:09, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
• at label: "Omit parenthetical dates; save that information for the main article as this degree of detail is better discussed in prose"

Lead

• Given the article's Readable prose size, there should only be 2 ¶¶.
• Simplify: Perth, Western Australia} > Perth
• who formed in 2016 > which formed in 2016 band vs person.
• Line up from when? Possibly start sentence with Since late 2019 Also list alphabetically per previous.
• Is Harper the sole song writer? If not remove songwriting.
• 2nd ¶ can be trimmed: some content appears to be have undue weight. Specifically, the whole first sentence.
• 2nd ¶ 2nd sentence awkwardly combines ARIA charting with Triple J list placements. The former should be in 1st ¶ after band members. It should also have "Booster Seat"'s charting (top 10 and triple platinum is significant). The significant Triple J placements could be shown in 2nd ¶ but put source in main text.03:36, 16 November 2022 (UTC)
• 3rd ¶ should be split between the 1st and 2nd. With album charting in 1st. Further Triple J in 2nd.
• ARIA Award win (not mentioned in Lead!) and number-one album surely should be before Triple J placements.

shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 09:49, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

• Updated Lead: In 2nd ¶ 1st sentence avoid MOS:SEAOFBLUE.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 22:58, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
• Update: reformat ARIA Albums chart
• Update: I don't like spawned. Try a less jargon term such as: providedshaidar cuebiyar (talk) 23:09, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
• Update: what does "holding four positions in 2020" mean? How does it relate to "Good for You"?
• Update: the band had three charting songs – most notably "Lots of Nothing" at number three Avoid "charting" when referring to Triple J's Hottest 100: it is a poll based on listeners votes and is not a chart. Avoid "most notably" try "highest placed" or similar.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 23:22, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2016–2018

• ¶1: Confusing. Lead-in sentence should start with founders, in alphabetical order, with instrumentation and location. Following sentences can describe previous bands, locations &/or relationships.
• Trim came to be during a night out in Perth with one of the band members' friends, Jane
• ¶ 2 is a single sentence. It can be trimmed e.g. From 2016 to 2017 they played one or two local shows a week.[11]
• ¶ 2 has three sentences and can be trimmed.
• What does "immediate radio success" actually mean?
• After trimming ¶ 3 you can combine the section latter two ¶¶.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 11:37, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
• Update: provide instrumentation/role for band members in main text at first time. After that refer to band members by last name.
• Update: mention Fremantle as a suburb of Perth (so it agrees with Lead and Infobox).
• Update: Their debut EP No Way to Treat an Animal was released in November 2017. > Their six-track debut extended play No Way to Treat an Animal (November 2017) was released independently containing all three singles. It peaked in the top 30 of the ARIA Albums chart in December 2020. It is significant that an early release charted three years after being issued. Note: both sentences require sources and there is a hard space between top and 30.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 22:58, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
• Prior experience: Lama was a drummer in Horsham before moving to Geraldton and meeting Harper. Also includes more on band's early years.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:21, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2018–2019

• Is In the Meantime an extended play or a double-A-side single? If the former why is In the Slight their "second EP" (see 2nd ¶). If the latter why is it in the Extended plays table (see Discography section).
• Music publication Pile Rats described Add the author's name in there and fix Pilerats (form used by the publication itself) here and elsewhere. Note: In the Meantime is not described as an EP by author.
• For In the Slight how many tracks?
• Reword last sentence of 2nd ¶: the way its written it seems to be describing the launch party not the EP.
• 3rd ¶. Avoid single-sentence or short ¶¶. Combine with previous ¶. Reword sentence chronologically e.g. start with By winning the Triple J Unearthed Falls competition Note: pipe has been adjusted to avoid redirect.
• Consider combining the first two sections into something like 2016–2019: Formation and early years. Some content from following section (up to Peppa Lane joining) could be moved there as well. The following section would then deal with 2020–2021. This would even out the sections in terms of length.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 22:58, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2019–2021

• Adjust {{Main|Sunlight (Spacey Jane album) > {{Main|Sunlight (Spacey Jane album)Sunlight The addition of acts like a pipe in a wikilink.
• Tour names are not italicised.
• Choose a different word for "supporting" Used twice in two sentences.
• In sentence fragment starting with "it was followed by" remove 2019 from release years (its already been established).
• From 2nd ¶, remove "Later in 2019," and "announced as" Unnecessary. (see also next points)
• Replace Splendour in the Grass. > Splendour in the Grass on 21 July.
• Remove "being" from final sentence of 3rd ¶. (Short ¶ and should be added to next ¶)
• Note: if you decide to move the 1st 2 ¶¶ to the previous section then the new 1st ¶ should start with "Spacey Jane signed a global deal with AWAL in January 2020." Otherwise reword appropriately.
• Laneway sentence becomes new second sentence of ¶.
• The current 1st part of the current 4th ¶ will need to be reworded to become the ¶'s 3rd sentence: e.g. The four-piece also announced the proposed release date for their debut studio album, Sunlight, as 12 June.
• Change The announcement came alongside the release of fourth single > They issued the album's fourth single
• Too many "which" in that sentence.
• Next ¶: start with "Straightfaced" (May) and "Booster Seat" (June) were released as its fifth and sixth singles
• After the official release of Sunlight, > Upon the appearance of Sunlight Brevity and avoid repetitive use of "release"
• Music > music (in mid-sentence) and delink COVID-19 pandemic at end of same sentence (previously linked term).
• 20 minute > 20-minute
• Delink Triple J. In fact check the rest of article and delink all terms which have previously been linked in the main text (this does not refer to linked terms in captions or after Artistry section): I might not point out anymore overlinked terms.
• "Booster Seat" further won Song of the Year at > "Booster Seat" won Song of the Year at Not previously linked in main text (linked terms in Lead can be linked again below Lead).
• On 7 May 2021, the song was verified platinum in Australia. > By September 2022, the song was verified 3× platinum in Australia for shipment of 210,000 copies. Note: hard spaces between 3× and platinum and between 210,000 and copies. (I may not indicate other hard spaces, so keep an eye out for them by checking wikicode used).shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 01:30, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
• predicted that Spacey Jane would top the countdown with "Booster Seat", > predicted that "Booster Seat" would top the list, Brevity.
• with the Cessnock Advertiser writing > with The Cessnock Advertisers Josh Lesson writing wL term to most appropriate article, add author rather than have a newspaper as the writer.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 20:03, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2021–present

• Fix main template per previous example.
• Too much detail on preamble ahead of Here Comes Everybody. As an article on the album already exist much of this detail could be transcluded there. Furthermore nearly every ¶ starts with "On 29 January 2021," or similar, which is tiresome.
• Trim frontman Caleb Harper
• Who has the interview with? A radio station?
• Trim to drummer and manager Kieran Lama's Also reduce "manage" terms (three in one sentence).
• Delink AWAL here.
• Unclear: whose EP is Home Sessions? Spacey Jane's, Phoebe Bridgers' or other? It its Spacey Jane's why isn't it in Extended plays table?
• Name of EP? Referred to by "part of a promotional EP"
• Change tense for event that has occurred: these dates would later be changed to October
• Consider "In February 2022, the album's title was revealed as" So this is a year after teasing the reader of this section that the album was "almost completely" written? (see 2nd dot point above)
• What are "vinyl production days"? Or is the last word "delays"?
• Change awkward sounding "covering their own song" maybe "re-recording" instead?
• Did they tour North America?shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 03:27, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Artistry

• All this content could be combined into one ¶.
• Frontman and lead songwriter Caleb Harper > Harper shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 03:34, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Tours

• As indicated above tour names are not italicised even if named for an album or EP.
• Add a hard space between end of tour name and endash but not between endash and country e.g. In the Slight Australian Tour – Australia (2019) Check wikicode.
• For tour dates only year or year span required. Although they should still be listed chronologically from earliest tour to most recent.
• Replace UK, Europe with Europe. (UK is still part of Europe despite Brexit).shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:38, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Band members

• Add a hard space after member's last name and before endash.
• Instead of <small>...</small> consider using ...shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:55, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Discography

• Supply catalogue numbers per release e.g. AWAL (SPACJ005CD)
• Is In the Meantime an Extended play? It only has two tracks.
• In singles table "Old Enough" and "So You Wanna" are combined as "Old Enought"/"Do You Wanna" and are non-album singles (i.e. remove In the Meantime from album column.
• For Music videos, album column not needed;
• Fix music video titles: "Keep a Clean Nose" "It's Been a Long Time"
• Update: an Other appearances section is required for their ReWiggled track, any Like a Version works or similar.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:12, 17 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Awards and nominations

• Each table should have a heading line (similar to discography tables).
• In ARIA table use Song of the Year instead of ARIA Award for Song of the Year. Use Best Rock Album to wikilink award article.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:46, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Criterion 2[edit]

It is verifiable with no original research:

a. it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline:
b. all in-line citations are from reliable sources, including those for direct quotations, statistics, published opinion, counter-intuitive or controversial statements that are challenged or likely to be challenged, and contentious material relating to living persons—science-based articles should follow the scientific citation guidelines:
c. it contains no original research: ; and
d. it contains no copyright violations nor plagiarism:

References I will be checking all the references and each comment below is under their number as they existed at this edit. The order in the article may change from this numbering as refs get moved, added or deleted. Newspapers, journals and other works are generally italicised but publishers are not. Use dmy dates for date, archive date and retrieved date. Every effort should be made to identify author(s). Wikilink work or publisher first time they appear in the references section. Any bare urls or dead urls should be fixed immediately. Where multiple tabs are placed in the main text, check that they are in numerical order. For article titles use wikipedia formatting, which may differ from that of the source.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:18, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

1. Fix title, wL website. Content verified, independent reliable source. Note: ref could be moved to main text out of Infobox per advice above.
2. Fix title, wL website. Content verified, independent reliable source. Note: see previous.
3. Fix title, wL website, fix date format, remove |language=en: English is default for an Australian group (remove similar instances in other refs). Content verified, independent reliable source.
4. Fix title, Triple J is treated as a publisher i.e. publisher=Triple J (Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)) Subsequent Triple J sources are not wikilinked. Content verified, independent reliable source.
5. Fix dates. Content verified but independence of source is questionable: seems to be user-generated without editorial oversight. Find a better source.04:18, 16 November 2022 (UTC)
6. Same ref as [4] Use a ref tab instead.
7. Fix title, add website or publisher. Sees same as ref [82]. Content partly verified: no indication of receiving airtime, independent reliable source.
8. In title change hyphen to endash. Content not verified: no mention of radio station. How is this an independent reliable source?
9. Fix title, fix dates. Content partly verified: date for EP not seen it is "upcoming". Another source needed for release date. Independent reliable source. Note: content is available her for use in Artistry section. Furthermore McGahey writes that "Still Running" (August 2017) was "Written, recorded and mixed over the space of nearly two years, with band members in and out and a hiatus for travel" implies the group started in 2015 not 2016.
10. Fix title, dates, website (should mention Bandcamp somewhere). Content supported however is Bandcamp's content provided by Spacey Jane i.e. user generated? Independence is questionable. Better independent source required.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 06:31, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
11. Fix title, dates, website. Direct quote relates to "Old Enough" – not both tracks. Content not verified.
12. See comments at [10]
13. Fix title, date, website. Content verified.
14. Fix title, date, website, add author. Content verified.
15. Fix title, add date, fix website (wL to University of Canberra), add author, Content verified.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 12:12, 16 November 2022 (UTC)19:48, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
16. Fix title, website is incorrect: to handle Triple J refs see [4] but delink terms, Search engine shows no results: content not verified. Presumably user is required to enter Spacey Jane at "Artist" or Good for You at "Song". However, better if ref takes you directly to the results e.g. here. Otherwise provide another source.
17. Fix title, dates, wL website. Content verified. I've decided to no longer point out poor titles, bad date formats, wikilinking websites, find author(s) or remove language if its English; from the rest of the sources. However I still want them fixed.
18. Content verified. Note: source has "formed in Geraldton in 2016" Also provides Lane's previous groups.
19. Add |url-access=subscription (may be required at other refs) Content cannot be checked by non-subscribers. If possible find alternative source.
20. Content needs to indicate that the broadcast was not direct-to-air e.g. add , later that month. at end of current sentence.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 19:48, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
21. Content partly verified, label not named: it should be verified either here or in discography table.
22. Content verified but source is not independent: better source required.
23. Content partly verified: no mention of COVID.
24. Add |last=staff writer Content partly verified (see previous). You need a ref for tour delay by COVID restrictions.
25. Content verified.
26. Content partly verified: "Booster Seat" not mentioned. Its release in June is not supported.
27. Source not checked: it exists, page numbers supplied and could be checked by other users. Assume Good Faith (AGF) for content.
28. Content not verified: subject not mentioned with other festival participants.

30. Content not verified: cannot find mention of Harper's vulnerable lyricism or similar. Nevertheless a good source to expand Artistry section.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 23:37, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

42. Content verified. Same as [107]. Combine. This is now the third time I've spotted a duplicated source. Comb through the article to find any more, combine them and use ref tabs.

Criterion 3[edit]

Broad in its coverage:

a. it addresses the major aspects of the topic: ; and
b. it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style): .

Artistry – immediate action required here. This is a very short and under-populated section with about three sentences in one ¶. All of if is from the band themselves! (this affects Crierion 2 above, also) This needs third-party reliable sources describing the group's influences, development and wider impact.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 07:03, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ideas for expansion of this section:

• Details of their genres and how they have changed over time, as determined by independent reliable sources.
• Provide some critical responses: including positive, neutral and negative opinions of professional critics.
• How does their live performance differ from studio recordings?
• Have they inspired other artists? What's their impact been?

Main text

• Who are the song writers of their more notable (top 20 &/or platinum) hits?
• Why is there no prose on their New Zealand charting (albeit its on Hot Singles chart)?
• Who are the producers of their albums & EPs?
• Did they have any support slots for headlining artists?
• Did any artists have support slots for their headlining tours?

Continues to have difficulty in expanding Artistry section: fails this criterion.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 09:33, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Criterion 4[edit]

Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each::

Lead 2nd ¶

• "Following a double A-side and second EP in 2018," Not notable enough for the Lead (undue weight)
• Triple J Hottest 100 positions are significant enough for the main text. However, individual placements beyond the top 20 are not notable enough for the Lead. (undue weight)

Although capable of improvement, it nevertheless passes this criterion.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 09:35, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Criterion 5[edit]

Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute:

Article passes this criterion.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 01:27, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Criterion 6[edit]

Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio:

a. media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid fair use rationales are provided for non-free content: ; and
b. media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions: .
• Infobox photo: free-use media with suitable licensing information. Caption: where are they performing?
• 2018 photo: free-use media with suitable licensing information. Caption: add "L-R: Hardman-Le Cornu, Harper, Lama, Amelia Murray" or similar. Murray in full as not previously named in a caption.
• 2020 photo: free-use media with suitable licensing information. Caption: Harper fronting the band at Laneway Festival in 2020.
• "Booster Seat" audio sample: has Non-free use rationale. Sample of reduced quality and duration. Caption claims including Harper as lyricist require verification.

Overall[edit]

Overall:

Pass/Fail:

I've finished my review. As indicated above, there are many problems remaining to be fixed. I will give the nominator, and interested editors, a week to finalise these before I make my decision. Have fun.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 09:27, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's been a week since I finished my review. Although some improvement has occurred it is not enough yet. Particularly important is the lack of any real progress in the Artistry section.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 09:28, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hey @Shaidar cuebiyar thanks so much for the valuable feedback over the past few weeks. I will definitely take all these improvements into consideration for my future editing and completely understand the GA failure. Thanks again for your dedication to improving the article. December 2022 edits[edit]

I decided to improve the article after it failed the above GAN, which I provided:

1. I've supplied archive-urls and ref fixes for most of the early references. I'll leave the later ones for other interested editors. Someone should also check for ref duplications.
2. I've expanded the Artistry section. I've left the second ¶ half-done allowing for interested editors to add information about the differences between their two albums.
3. Other ideas for improvements are to be found in the review, above.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:20, 11 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
