Sampson and Goliah[edit]

I have removed a comment made by user 62.249.214.190 that The curious spelling errors in the names of these two locomotives are believed to have been made by semi-literate pattern makers when the nameplates were produced, the names having been given to them verbally (see "Red For Danger" in the references section). These spellings were in common use at the time, cf. St Sampson and List of United States Navy ships, G Geof Sheppard 08:20, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
