Narrative not exactly correct, but I can't seem to edit the stub, nor do I have citable material. Connersville and Rushville left for reasons other than class basketball, which was not implemented until 1998 in Indiana (several years after the departure from both schools).
Connersville and Rushville left for geographic reasons as the rest of the conference centered on two major transit corridors of southern Indiana located to the west of both schools: State Road 37 (Bloomington S + Martinsville and later Bloomington N and Center Grove) and Interstate 65 (Columbus N and Seymour).
The conference dissolved due to the creation of the MIC, which included Center Grove (South Central), Lawrence North (Central Suburban), Carmel (Olympic), and three very large school independents: Warren Central, North Central, and Ben Davis. This left the South Central with a short and unbalanced football schedule (5 teams, forcing a bye week and scheduling difficulties).
The response to the creation of the MIC and resulting loss of Center Grove was for the 4 largest (and furthest north) members to merge with the 6 surviving members of the Central Suburban to form a 10 team conference. Seymour departed to the geographically convenient Hoosier Hills Conference.
