Skyline Alumni[edit]

Any Skyline alumni here? I wonder where all the Titans go after high school.

I know where a few of em are. They're everywhere. Texas, Arizona, DC, Washington state. Most of the folks that went to away for school moved out but are still in Cali, but there's a pretty large fraction still in the O. A couple even go back to teach at Skyline (I heard rumors Jill Flanagan and Alex Harp where there) Justforasecond 06:44, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Original Research and Unsourced Statements[edit]

I believe a lot of the content on the page violates Wikipedia policy. I have flagged statements that are unsourced; there may be others that I have missed.

The discussions above should not be here either, IMHO, though I know that this is a "talk" page and not the main article. The discussions should be focused on improving or clarifying the article, which they don't appear to be.

I'm not a Skyline alumnus, so I've tried not to change anything that's presented as fact, though I have tagged the statements as needing citations. I hope those with more information, preferably that's available via the Web, can help to improve the article.

I find it rather difficult to cite any sources, mostly because the writers of this article are largely the pimary, rather than secondary, source of information.

As a few of the writers of this article, including me, are/were Skyline students at some point, we can confess to the validity of some of these supposed facts. I know that in the academia world, that the words of a high school student holds no water, and that ultimately this page could very well be full of -... "stuff".

However, I sincerely doubt that anyone would use this page to truly research about my school. If they really wanted to learn more about Skyline, then they could come visit it!

My initial intentions on creating this wiki article was to shed some light on the influences of American stars Gary Payton, Tom Hanks, and others in their early life. As adolescence lends a hand to one's future personality traits and professions, I found reason to create this wiki.

Now how to improve the wiki? I cannot see anyone citing anything out on the web as a source, perhaps a book or our school newspaper perhaps? --Klein Lieu 07:31, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Needs Clarification[edit]

Problems[edit]

I can think of three things to work on on this article. Here are the biggest problems as of now:

  1. Citations. Much of the information is this article is unsourced.
  2. Vandalism. This, unfortunately, seems to be a big problem.
  3. Images. The article entirely lacks graphics, logos, photos, etc.

Neutrality Issues[edit]

This article takes a very opinionated view on the school. It needs to be revised not just for accuracy and errors ("locked in their places"), but also as not to portray Skyline as a school filled with criminals and junkies, which I can assure any reader based on my observations as a current student of Skyline, is not a true statement. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.107.99.188 (talk • contribs) 00:20, 19 April 2007 69.107.99.188

How this article can shine[edit]

A big problem here is the lack of references. Even stuff that is true needs a reference, cause how is the rest of the world going to know whether someone just made it up?

Here are ways to combat this:

  • Use information from the school's website. Yes, the school's website sucks, but there is some info there.
  • Use information from the local newspapers, the Trib, Chron, and other local publications.
  • Use information from the school newspaper, yearbook, and literary journal. The great thing about this is students can get things in here that otherwise would go underreported. These all have editorial oversight so they are "reliable" as far as wikipedia cares. (unlike a student's blog)

Unbeknownst to many, there's also a book all about Skyline called "Skyline" (sportswriter Tim Keown is the author, he followed around the basketball team). Any Skyliners interested in improving this page might go check it out at the library

agreed, and it needs to only have information appropriate for an encyclopedia article on a high school. a lot of this information is sourcable but not notable. While AP class offerings MIGHT be appropriate, a list of all class offerings is definitely not. there are guidelines for schools, I will reread them and may do some editing here.(mercurywoodrose)66.80.6.163 (talk) 22:45, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Matriculation[edit]

I'm boldly removing the entire "Matriculation" section. The two sources given do not actually support the text, and the section is mostly an arbitrary list of universities that various students have been accepted to in the past. Since high school students everywhere get accepted to universities, such a list is hardly notable. There's also language which seems to be unduly focused on a single year's worth of statistics ("28% plan to attend..."), but it's hard to tell, given the lack of sources.
