I believe the nickname may also occur when named after relative from more than a generation before[edit]
If my grandfather but not my father was John Doe I and my folks named me for him, would "Skip" not be a nickname chosen, indicating that the given name had "skipped" a generation? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.37.99.86 (talk) 23:26, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
