Doubt[edit]

Skete vs Sketis; based on Greek dictionaries (e.g.1) the former is probably wrong when used in the sense written in this article cause only the latter word dating from the Hellenistic period is of the toponym, i.e. the name of the Aegyptian place-desert, while the former word was derived in Greek in medieval times from the latter denoting the monastic-ascetic meaning.An alternative also btw attested form of Sketis (Σκῆτις) in Greek (according to this) is Skitis (Σκίτις).Moreover no possibility of derivation of skete from askesis-asketes-... is present in these (at least two major) sources.Finally, while these sources don't go,expand further on whether Sketis is the Greek derived form of an original Coptic word(something I can't and won't dispute) and while(and because) I certainly don't know Coptic, as I've already said the derivation and creation of Skete from Sketis to denote the ascetic-monastic meaning, according to these sources, was made in Greek.In other words the Coptic word seems to be in this case only a toponymic one that while probably being the ultimate root, didn't have the monastic meaning in Coptic at the time(to Coptic speakers out there: how about now or later?can you anyway help?);it was (again according to the Greek dict.) in Greek that this new word and meaning was created during the medieval, i.e. Byzantine times...Thanatos|talk 09:47, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Notable early Skete leader Saint Macarius[edit]

In the second paragraph under the heading "Notable early Skete leader Saint Macarius," the first sentence needs correcting. It does not make sense as it is. Something is missing. I do not know enough about the subject to correct it.CorinneSD (talk) 15:38, 22 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pete Davidson and Kanye West spat[edit]

I don't know whether Kanye's new nickname for Davidson, "skete", should be mentioned in this article or not. There are a number of reliable sources for their spat:

However, this article also has literally nothing to do with the slang term "skete". Despite this, I feel like a lot of people curious about this spat are going to go to the Wikipedia article for "skete" and expect something (myself included).
