Untitled[edit]

Hey all MJ here,

Was thinking that maybe having the english name come before the Haida name should be changed to reflect that the Haida names are the true place names of these areas as they were the traditional inhabitants and not their english renditions- this goes for changing the tittle as well. I don't know which Haida name would be the best fit though (we looked up the true place name and change ours to that)

The term QCI (queen charlotte islands) is out dated and should reflect the real place name for the islands which is Haida Gwaii (officially changed in 2008).

The site and Gwaii Haanas as a whole also falls under the National Marine Conservation designation and may be worth noting at the end as well.

Maybe adding some more on the History and importance of location on the area may be helpful (if its available) to give a more well rounded idea of what this area was like when there were people living there, when did they leave? why did they leave? where did they go etc? was trade in this area hostile or mutually beneficial? who did they trade with? when was first contact in this area? when was the village abandoned? was is because of epidemics?

Think what you guys have is good but I think you can go a lot deeper without having to put in a ton more hours? I feel as though theres a lot missing and if thats because of lack of resources totally get it, but if the info above is available I think its worth adding in.

Peer Review from Johanna[edit]

Peer review:

  • Popularly –informal
  • variously –informal/confusing

-insert name of Haida Language. -sentence structure first sentence needs work. -hyperlink all words that have Wikipedia page attached for example: Haida Gwaii, Skidegate, George M. Dawson

  • totem pole- make sure it’s the correct name for type of pole

3rd paragraph -first sentence structure is off -Decide whether throughout the page you refer to the village as Skedans or Koona atm it switches 4th paragraph

word *significant careful of the use of opinion words

-2nd sentence change the word *meant and *fact

Considerations: -add sub titles -careful of informal language and bias language try to remain in neutral tone and remove words like "tried"

-Good length and information, very interesting Jmvansch (talk) 19:31, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
