Frank Sinatra was the consummate professional live performer. He had a wit and charm that made the concert feel warm and personal, even conveying that fifty years later through CD's. On this magic night "The chairman of the board" recorded this performance in the Seattle Armory. I understand that most of Sinatra's concerts were hurried somewhat disorganized affairs, he was a very busy man in the 50's.
On this occasion, he managed to get the best studio players in L.A. and Nelson Riddle to conduct the orchestra. From the first opening song to the end, you feel like you're on a special journey. Throughout the evening Franks pokes fun at himself and the band, sharing jokes and telling stories like you were sitting at his table in the Sands.
Frank's voice is powerful, persuading, and at times a soft whisper, but always in command. And he had already been doing this for nearly thirty years!
The band is absolutely impeccable in their performance and Nelson Riddle is the master captain of this golden cruise. From the beginning the band and Sinatra blend into one musical spirit that's like a magic carpet ride for an hour, at the end of the show you feel out of breath and excited and happy that you got to experience this show.
This CD is available at online stores and auctions and was released in Gold Disk. Buy yourself a copy if you love Frank, even if it is expensive. I promise you'll treasure this gem the rest of your life.
