Article needs help[edit]

Greene was one of the defining Silver Age inkers for DC Comics, yet because he died in 1972, before the rise of most fanzines and trade press that covered comics creators, there seems very little about his life available online. I've pulled what I could from one book about Silver Age artists, but I'm sure we as community can find more — perhaps an obit in his hometown paper, if we can find out where he lived and died. -- Tenebrae (talk) 07:46, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Looking up the SSDI I get only one Sidney Greene dying in 1972: 18 Jun 1906 - Oct 1972 [1] and it gives the place his death was registered as New York (which would make sense as most of the main artists of that age would gravitate there for work). If the 1972 date is good (and Lambiek are usually spot on) then that might give you a new angle of attack. I also tried Find a Grave but drew a blank. D'oh! Of course the SSDI! Good thinking! (I will say it was an insomniac night for me and I was working on the Sid entry at, like, 3 a.m. ....) That's probably him, though it would mean he was 34 when he broke into comics, back when most of the artists were much younger. But I'll use that 1906 date to poke around. It's good as always to collab with you! --Tenebrae (talk) 20:22, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, after confirming with Who's Who in American Comic Books 1928-1999 that he spelled his first name "Sidney" and not "Sydney" or "Sidwell" or some other variation, and seeing as that is the only "Sidney Greene" (with an end "e") with a 1972 death date in the Social Security Death Index, I'd say you found our man. Good hunting, as they say on Battlestar Galactica! -- Tenebrae (talk) 14:34, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Good stuff. It might be enough to turn up more information. The age he broke in might not be a problem as it is possible he was doing work elsewhere before then - it'd be interesting to find out what that was. (Emperor (talk) 14:14, 26 November 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Today's edits[edit]

Some anon IP changed Greene's life dates based on uncited claims of personal knowledge, which violates both WP:VERIFY and WP:NOR. Moreover, there is not a single Sid Greene or S Greene in the Social Security Death Index with the alleged 1923-1975 dates. Therefore, I restored the original cited dates.--Tenebrae (talk) 21:30, 1 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Tenebrae - it seems that some of the dates were later changed again. -- Beardo (talk) 23:06, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
