This individual is an individual of signifigance in the Orthodox Jewish Community.
He has most recently appeared in an Op-Ed in the New York Times regarding the Jewish Community Kosher Meat issues in Postville, Iowa, which has attracted feedback from hundreds of Rabbis, community leaders, etc.

The following material was repeatedly deleted by an IP:
"On 3.11.2015 the Moetzes of Agudath Israel of America declared Open Orthodoxy, Yeshivat Chovevei Torah, Yeshivat Maharat and other affiliated entities to be similar to other dissident movements throughout Jewish history in having rejected basic tenets of Judaism.[1][2][3]"

Since Herzfeld apparently declares himself open orthodox, this information is pertinent. Similarly, if all the institutions of orthodox Judaism, including modern orthodox, have rejected the so-called "open orthodoxy", one can legitimately ask in what sense can Herzfeld be described as an orthodox rabbi.
