Flags added and re-added.

I have restored the POV flag... I don't see where it was removed but I can't ... quite ... support its removal. There is still "too much glow for the show."

I have also added Refimprove and some Unreferenced Section flags. The article is IMO certainly a useful reference, but it could stand real improvement from someone with the knowledge of the sources to add them.- sinneed (talk) 19:26, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

Looks like nobody is really interested in editing this piece. This is not a wiki, looks more like a reverential autobiography to me. It needs a neutrality-check, references, wikifying and what not. I suggest that it be rewritten or removed (59.96.162.108 (talk) 05:29, 27 June 2011 (UTC))

looks like you need your head examined to me. 69.219.224.247 (talk) 20:57, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

Completely biased?

This page is completely biased and cites very few sources. The whole thing reads like character testimony, not fact. The author's views on the topic should not be so obvious -- this is supposed to be an objective portrayal of the man, after all.

I think the whole thing should be rewritten, and large chunks of the text removed (seriously: it reads like a novel). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.79.70.161 (talk) 16:16, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

Also, the only sources referenced within the page are from Sikh-oriented websites. Both websites portray this particular individual as a hero; whether he was or not is irrelevant. The tone of this article is completely inappropriate. It should be removed. Happy Family Planning (talk) 16:27, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

This page could stand as a brilliant example of how not to write an encyclopedia article. Almost all of it should go until we have reliable sources and NPOV writing.

Agreed with most of the comments above - this article is totally inappropriate and in its current form does not belong on Wikipedia. Must be re-written thoroughly to reflect an objective point of view. Adamska (talk) 09:03, 17 March 2014 (UTC)

I completely agree with all that is said above. It's too glorifying. Quoting one sentence from the section Operation Blue Star in the article : "Perhaps he had a hidden desire to die fighting and in the holy presence of our Gurus." I'm no expert at this, but I'm pretty sure that we don't express our own points of view here. Hope the article is edited. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 14.141.35.115 (talk) 09:10, 20 March 2014 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the comments, teh article as it stands today is much better and your concerns should have been satisfied. --DBigXray 15:01, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

Sources for the Bio

I have removed the non reliable sources full of Biased WP:PUFFERY and possible misrepresentation of facts e.g. "Perhaps he had a hidden desire to die fighting and in the holy presence of our Gurus"[1] and a Forum [1] Although both of these claim to be sourced from Grewal's book, The fact that it is not a first hand information, it cannot be put into article especially for highly controversial facts. (refer rules on WP:BIO).

As of today, I have made several edits to make the article satisfy WP:NPOV future editors can refer this version of today as a starting point and Grewal's book for checking some uncontroversial facts. --DBigXray 15:01, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

Discharge from army

"Discharged from Indian Army without court martial one day before his retirement, thus losing part of his pensions. Singh took his case to the civil courts which cleared him of all the charges." What charges? the charges that he was discharged on were that he had accepted a payment of Rs.2500 as a gift after a long inquiry of over one year. the inquiry was made in order to deal with his intervention in a case of gen.raina taking money for promotions and rising jealousy amongst his senior officers. nothing to do with the khalistan movement here, shameful to see people speak ill of a general decorated with the PVSM, a fighter of the second world war a. another reason for this inquiry was that he denied the government's order to arrest jaya prakash narayan in the pre emergency period as he claimed it was not his job. • Above is not a WP:RS reliable sources. The language is WP:Puffery and possible misrepresentation of facts. We cannot se this source for such highly controversial claims. If you have a better source, we can take a look at that. --DBigXray 15:05, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

Shabeg Singh: National Hero?

Several of the current article sources mention that Shabeg Singh was a national hero, or at least well-respected for work in the military prior to his dismissal. Is there anything that contradicts this? "National Hero" might come off as a bit strong or possibly biased, so I've updated the article to simply say that he was notable for his service in the 1971 Pakistan War. --Elephanthunter (talk) 13:07, 22 August 2019 (UTC)

Description of charges against Singh

It would be nice if someone had a WP:RS with more detailed information about what specific charges were brought against Singh. "Corruption" seems frustratingly vague. --Elephanthunter (talk) 16:21, 22 August 2019 (UTC)

Edited for content

I removed a few sentences saying that Singh's motivation for dying in battle was his poor treatment by his former employers, the army he was then fighting. Seems like unsubstantiated guesswork to me. On an unrelated note, is anyone organizing a WikiProject to get real, complete bios of real, important Sikhs, or is the current situation (many out-of-context illiterate POV copyvio microstubs) likely to continue for the foreseeable future? I'm not volunteering. I'm not interested in the means, just the ends. --Quuxplusone 00:44, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)
