Requested move 11 August 2021[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: no consensus. per discussion, lack of consensus for any particular translation, and overall lack of provided rationale. In order to qualify for a relist, we would need to believe a consensus could form with more time. Given that it has been 18 days, and these are all the sources/votes we have, I do not think that is the case. Closing with no consensus. Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (Argentina)National Weather Service (Argentina) – Please place your rationale for the proposed move here. 186.158.132.73 (talk) 11:22, 11 August 2021 (UTC) — Relisting. Jack Frost (talk) 04:32, 20 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. No rationale. No need. And would translate as National Meteorological Service in any case. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:46, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not necessarily. Assume WP:USEENGLISH. According to the DAB at Servicio Meteorológico Nacional, the US Spanish is translated from "weather". You're splitting hairs on the back-translation of "Meteorológico" vs unsourced (per guidelines for DABs) "Meteorología". I will try to find RS per WP:COMMONNAME. Please don't bite the WP:NEWBIES. 85.67.32.244 (talk) 22:12, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's a start. 85.67.32.244 (talk) 22:30, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
WP:UE does not mandate translation of every foreign name into English. Only those that have a well-established and commonly-used English translation. Given your three examples all use different translations I would say that this is definitely not the case! -- Necrothesp (talk) 09:40, 12 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
