I support the merge, and would support a deletion. However, I'd support an article about the SSSR. That society has, at least partly, been a repository for cult apologists. So it would be interesting to learn more about them. --Tilman 20:50, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

I don't believe that this should be merged with Religious Studies. They are completely different, I am a religious studies student and I am simply trying to learn about religions and understand them. In England the subject is just about gaining a better sympathy for people of all cultures, it is nothing to do with "[investigating] religious phenomena, as well as the sociology of church participation." reference http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_study_of_religion.

I believe that this article on the scientific study of religion needs expanding and should stand alone with a lot more written about it. Religious studies is just what it says it is, the study of religions, as a student of this discipline I do not agree that we are concerned with the truth of religions, only with what they are about, and how they effect peoples lives. While this is also the sociology of religions, it appears that the scientific study of religion seems to be mainly concerned with this and little else. No neutrality

This is completely scandalous to insert your opinion in a wikipedia article. Why the study of the religion is linked to "brainwashing". The neutrality on wikipedia is a fable for the naive ones. That's scandalous.

The links shouldn't give an opinion on the article "brainwashing", and even the opposite, "religious persecution", are not directly linked to the article. And authoritarism? Is it a joke or something.

This page seems to think that the study of religion is only held by Texas CSSR, that's very ethno-centrist and religious-centrist. Do you think the only religion is christianity and this is the only group to study it? It seems a promotion page to me.
