I created this page because there is so little information about this largley unknown piece and i thought that a good article on the piece would prove very usefull to many people.

If you have any informamation to contribute to the article, please help make this page better.

Lesser-known pianists[edit]

"Lesser known pianists" is a POV.--Karljoos (talk) 22:30, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Changed to:

"Pianists who have also recorded the piece:"

Thanks for your help.

Update:

I have now changed all of the information in the recordings section into a table.

Close paraphrasing[edit]

I've removed the Style section of this article as it was virtually word for word with only minor changes from http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=42:28477. I've also edited the lead for the same reason. This kind of close paraphrasing is a copyright infringement and completely unacceptable on Wikipedia for legal reasons. Please read Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Voceditenore (talk) 21:58, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edits[edit]

The editor whose additions I had removed has reverted the opening sentence to 'their' version which contains a verbatim lift from [1] Compare:

Original source: Composed in 1885 during Borodin's visit to Belgium to attend a performance of his not-yet-complete opera Prince Igor...

Editor's version: ...written in 1885, during Borodin's visit to Belgium to attend a performance of his not-yet-complete opera Prince Igor.

Note also this material re-added to the removed Style section:

Original source: Although at less than three minutes' playing time, Borodin's Scherzo is clearly a miniature and is both an impressive précis of its composer and an effective piece in its own right.

Editor's version: At around three minutes' playing time, it is clearly a miniature however it offers an impressive summary of its composer's style and is an effective piece

This is close paraphrasing to the point of copyright infringement. In such a short article it is even more glaring. I am once again to going repair the article to remove this and correct the spelling errors. Please do not re-add the material in the closely paraphrased version. Write the article in your own words or not at all. This is not a personal quirk of mine, this is Wikipedia policy and it is not negotiable. Further guidance can be found here See especially FAQ 4. An Amazon listing is not a suitable reference[edit]

These sorts of references to commercial sites selling the recordings are inappropriate, especially Amazon, Prestoclassical etc. This section should be referenced to published reviews and discography discussions in reliable sources. For another thing, references to sales pages often become broken, as their merchanise listings change and or recordings are withdrawn. The only time these sorts of links can be appropriate is when the site includes the full liner notes which are used to reference commentary in the article. Wikipedia articles are supposed to be encyclopedia articles, not shopping guides. Voceditenore (talk) 07:23, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
