How the game got its name?[edit]

Hi, Can someone explain how the game got its name? Is "Scavenger" actually refer to e.g. hyena hunt, or there is another meaning behind it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rkeidar (talkcontribs) 23:57, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Added back the history section[edit]

I'm disappointed to see this page be reduced to a mere dictionary entry. I've added back the history section, as it rounds out this topic a little more. I also tried to read the discussions here, but they had been deleted. What do the rest of you think? Brina700 17:34, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

External links[edit]

I'm not sure I understand what the External Link section is for if not for EXTERNAL LINKS (meaning outside of Wiki). What does it matter if they are commercial, as long as they are RELATED TO THE TOPIC? I can see not putting an external link relating to PETS in a topic about SHOES, but if they are related, it seems the links should be fine. Brina700 02:37, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The section is for links outside of Wikipedia. It is for justified external links. From WP:EL: "...it is not Wikipedia's purpose to include a comprehensive list of external links related to each topic. ... If the site or page to which you want to link includes information that is not yet a part of the article, consider using it as a source first." Straight from the intro, I'm sure there's even more if you read a bit farther. And I haven't even looked at WP:SPAM, which is also mentioned in the section, but I'm sure it has more still. See also "Wikipedia is not [for] mere collections of external links or Internet directories. There is nothing wrong with adding one or more useful content-relevant links to an article; however, excessive lists can dwarf articles and detract from the purpose of Wikipedia." -Bbik 04:20, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion that this article be merged with the Treasure Hunts (game) article[edit]

I noticed that there is a suggestion that this article be merged with the Treasure Hunts (game) article. The two types of games are quite different. I'm not sure, however, where this is referenced in sources that would be considered verifiable, but as a starting point an editor could visit one of these pages to better understand the difference: https://www.scavengerhuntanywhere.com/comparing-scavenger-hunts-and-treasure-hunts/ http://www.treasurehuntriddles.org/what-is-the-difference-between-a-treasure-hunt-and-a-scavenger-hunt/ http://entertainmentguide.local.com/treasure-vs-scavenger-hunts-6738.html Teambuilder (talk) 19:15, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
