Satellite towns and satellite cities[edit]

Aren't satellite towns and satellite cities basically the same thing? Would it be better if one page redirected to the other?

They appear to be the same concept; however, neither article properly defines or addresses the full meaning of a "Satellite City". Satellites differ from suburbs or bedroom communities. Although part of a larger metropolitan area" they are capable of fully supporting their residential communities with an ample commercial and industrial base (in a vacuum), even though cross-commuting throughout the metropolitan area occurs (in reality). I support merging the two pages, but recommend a definition more in line with urban planning concepts.Mayor Pez 15:48, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Satellite Cities bigger than parent cities?[edit]

Quezon City currently the largest city in Metro Manila and in the whole country yet the parent city is Manila. Aren't they supposed to be smaller than the parent city? 122.57.152.142 (talk) 20:18, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"Municipality" status necessary?[edit]

I've modified the first line from "municipality" to "municipality or settlement" ([1]). Although the first source cited in the article does say that political independence is a common part of the definition (Encyclopedia of American Urban History), the second one (The New Urban Area Development [...]) says somewhat the opposite, and at least a couple of other definitions I've seen are likewise more general and don't define it strictly as an administratively independent town (Oxford Dictionary of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, International Encyclopedia of Human Geography).
